Unreal Tournament is a harder game to play than BF3.

MMOFPS. Soon we'll get the private house unlock in an upcoming patch.

I like how "realistic" BF3 is trying to be n' all.....but suppression needs to go. Seriously. When my scope is lined up with someone's head it shouldn't MATTER if they're shooting in my general direction (not landing a single bullet on me due to terrible aim), but my own shot should go through his head! It makes no sense that my bullets miss my target if someone else is shooting in my GENERAL direction!
I mean what's next, your gun has a chance of randomly jamming? You shouldn't be able to run or jump due to carrying 7 rockets and 5 AT mines weighing more than a cow?

Thanks to suppression I can comfortably take out snipers with a Pecheneg + bipod (and this is at 200+ meters) because once I start firing at them their bullets keep missing no matter how good their aim.

Christ Dice, please draw the line somewhere.

When they start nerfing and over nerfing it ruins the game look what they did to the blackhawlk in BF2... How's that saying go if you can't beat them join them, if someone keeps killing you figure it out.

They need to stick to fixing bugs and game security cheaters ect. and that's it.

The whole point of suppression in terms of its gameplay implementation is just that.

Suppression.

The very definition of suppressive fire is:
Quote:
The purpose of suppression is to stop or prevent a target from observing, shooting or moving. This is useful for tactical reasons, as a suppressed target will be unable to return fire upon vulnerable forces that are moving without cover. This enables forces to advance to new positions that offer more tactical advantages (e.g., a high point). For example, a US Marines article notes that "communication and suppressive fire are what enables movement on the battlefield, giving Marines the upper hand."[2] Suppressive fire may be used to enable a helicopter or boat to land or extract soldiers from a battle zone (the latter is called a "hot extraction").

The primary intended effect of suppressive fire is psychological. Rather than directly trying to kill enemy soldiers, it makes the enemy soldiers feel unable to safely perform any actions other than seeking cover. Colloquially, this goal is expressed as "it makes them keep their heads down" or "it keeps them pinned down". However, depending on factors including the type of ammunition and the target's protection, suppressive fire may cause casualties and/or damage to enemy equipment.

This is exactly what you are experiencing.

While suppressed, you are less capable of carrying out your normal offensive tasks and feel defensive due to the lack of confidence that your next shot will land.

DICE have done what they have set out to do IMO and have properly implemented suppression.

The whole point of it is to stop situations where people just stand in front of each other firing till one drops.

Being suppressed or suppressing creates a situation where tactics are introduced. Do you risk using a single shot, bolt action rifle vs a machine gun, or do you relocate and attempt to get them from another angle?

If someone is constantly firing in your direction, flank and take them out of their comfort zone.

If snipers are trying to play chicken with 200+ rounds of pecheneg after their sniping position has obviously been compromised and are getting their butts handed to them, it's their fault for not being able to deal with the situation.

Suppression rewards random spamming of bullets. Good for people that miss a lot. Eventually you will hit them because they cannot fire back at you.

The game tries to simulate the psychological advantage of suppressive fire, but it may go too far. What if I am the crazy guy who tries to combat against suppressive fire? The game will not let me do that (unless they make some sorta of anti-suppression perk).

"Realism is overrated" is something someone told me on this forum.

My biggest irritation w/ suppression is the visual handicap.

I hate feeling like I took off my glasses in a game, and walking into say the ticket booth area in metro it's incredibly difficult to see people. It's worse than if I was playing without my glasses, they're not even visible blobs, it seems like the enemies actually blend into the background more, and it's not localized to a certain area of my POV, but it takes over the entire screen no matter what direction the suppressive rounds are coming from.

After-patch, I find myself playing less and less because most of the fun is gone due to the gameplay changes, I still haven't adjusted. It makes me sad redface.gif.

Take away my accuracy, fine, but it's the visibility that bothers me the most. I would've hated to see what the suppression changes were like before they toned it down during QA testing.

Yesh.

Suppression definitely needs tuning, I understand teh concept and agree with it however when you're POINT BLANK it shouldn't matter when you're suppressed.
