Progress is progress. Honestly I feel this is where we need to stop (for phones), 1080p is the standard for HD video content so I have no problem with this. As long as my dream of having a 27" 7680*4800 monitor becomes reality I'll be happy. PC OEMs have become complacent, instead of making advancements in PPI they've decided to market 768p as 'HD'. This should put pressure on them to do more.

no offence, but at this rate we are moving in both directions, that "dream resolution" of yours might show up on a 9" ipad before the 27" desktop monitor.

I agree. I think 1080p is the highest we should go for large smartphones. I'd really like to see a 27 inch display with such a high resolution, I think we'll see 5120x2880 before we do 7680x4xxx.

Haha eek.gif , we'd need four PowerVR SGX600 series GPUs to replace the SGX543MP4 in the iPad to compensate for the resolution. I'd rather better looking games at 264 PPI than the same at ~900 PPI!

More pixels is good, for all screens, I cant describe how much I want a 440 ppi 30" monitor. 1080P is old and we are stuck here because of game consoles, lack of HD content, crappy cable, and majority user stupidity...

I dunno, 800x1280 on a smart phone and 1200x1920 for tablets is the best resolution possible for these devices.

Yes? I'm aware of the natural progression of things, I was simply stating it because the person to whom I replied said his dream was a 27 inch display with a 7680x4800 resolution. It's quite obvious that we're not going to go from 2560x1600 > 7680x4800.
