M-Audio IS a well known brand, for those who are familiar with recording and computer integration. They DO make very good sound cards too. Finally though Burr-Brown DACS are good but:

1- There not the last word in quality
2- I'm guessing -- and this is not based on fact -- that the Burr Brown Dacs used in an X-Fi aren't equivalent to the ones used in 3000$ Rotel A/V receivers. (Provided that Creative use Burr Brown DACs, I would have thought they make their own DACs, of course this is also speculative.)

Something from creative would be great, Yeah, the X-Fi, I have crystal clear option, you get to set it to 100% crystal clear or how the amount you want, also great for gaming, (gaming recommended) but i'm not sure does your motherboard support it, since it's stock, my friend's gateway gaming system doesnt support it. If you don't want to risk buying it, you should buy the Creative 2 soundcard. (the X-fi Is 5.1 only) make sure you have good quality speakers before risking to buy it.

cus it's kinda a waste if u buy it with stock speakers

Wow, I think I'm a new customer of bluegears, I thought creative was the best but I guess not because of their overpriced merchandize.

heres a link I saw somewhere up there. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829127002

has specs a little better then the xfi fatality gamer and its only 109.99$

way to go splat00n. It seems feasible enough that I may just get one of these, should I get a barebones system or even a m-ATX board.

X-FI is the best around as a sound processor goes and well take the audio processing off your CPU.

Does it have EAX 5.0?

I listen to music and play games, so the X-Fi Xtreme Music was the best choice for me. It was worth the money I paid for it, Id say.

I have always used onboard sound untill I bought my X-fi and i will never ever ever go back X-Fi is the best for gamming but I also agree for recording midi and such the M-Audio cards are much better than the X-fi i have used both (I have a keyboard) and X-fi is very hard to use with midi and doesn't do as good a job as M-audio.
