Please help, new build today and having CPU fan issues.

Thread Starter
A little bit ago I finished my new build. As I was updating windows and installing drivers and such I noticed one of my cpu fans stopped working I have two because the heatsink is a thermalrite silver arrow.

Both CPU fans are plug into a two way 4pin plug, so I unplugged them from that and hooked the fans directly to the motherboard one in the cpu slot and the other in a system fan slot.

Now the one hooked to the system fan slot works but the one hooked to the CPU slot doesn't.mad.gif So I went into bios and turned off cpu fan auto control so it would run it at full speed, but this did't fix the issue and the fan still turns off after going into windows. Yah In BIOS it runs fine but once into windows it shuts off.

If anyone knows whats going on and could help id appreciate it.

Since I haven't changed the info in my sig rig yet my new build is of the following:

Gigabyte Z77 UD5H
Corsair vengeance 8g ddr3 1600
intel i5 2550k sandybridge
850watt thermaltake psu
geforce gt 580
soundblaster titanium hd

First thing I would try is a bios update. If that doesn't work, put on another fan. If that doesn't work, it's likely the fan slot issue. But maybe a new install of windows?

Sound like it could be a board issue? You tested both fans in the system fan slot? That would say its not the fan. Like the above guy said maybe a bios update or reinstall windows. Sometimes it does funky fangdangled things.

I just updated the bios from F4 to F5. Damn I didn't think they would even have a Bios update for this board it just came out not long ago. Anyway although it didn't say fan issue as a reason for the update. It said better overclocking capability's, but that seemed to fix the fan. Atm it is working while im in windows. So a big thank you.thumb.gif
