Blackwidow Ultimate advice

I'm currently using a Microsoft Sidewinder X6 which is beginning to show its age and always wanted a mechanical keyboard. I tried living with the Razer Blackwidow (reg) and TT Meka G1 and found that I wanted to have backlighting and hate linear switches. I couldn't get too much gaming done within the 30 day return period and spent more time looking for gaming mice.

I found someone selling his Blackwidow Ultimate for $60 which is now reduced to $50 because I didn't respond back after my initial inquiry since I was busy researching the keyboard. I was wondering if it's something I should jump on at that price despite it being a Razer and the fact that it's really 2KRO (though more when using the WASD cluster). So far from what I've read on the board is that there's a mixed reaction, but that was for the $100+ price. I play FPSes mostly and plan on playing Diablo III. Any insight would be helpful.

*He's selling because he bought himself the Stealth version and wants to recoup some of the money.

If you're getting it for $50 go for it. Realistically, although it's only xKRO, it's not that much of a bad thing if you're only playing FPSs. Razer and a few other companies use gaming clusters/matrixes so that in that cluster you can press a bunch of keys without it locking up. For that low of a price, it's incredibly good value. Also, blue switches ftw!

i think $50 is not bad. do you know how much use/condition its in? with razer you always have those quality control issues you see threads on. but for that price, i say go for it.

Thanks.

It's in good condition despite being used for 5 months and the guy just got himself a Blackwidow Stealth.

I was concerned about the 2KRO because, while I primarily play FPSes, I do find myself interested in Action games, RPGs and strategies. Granted, the Sidewinder X6 is no better but I've been meaning to replace it for several months now and it only gave me a problem with a custom mapping in Deus Ex: HR.

My recommendation is to not get anything Razer. Their products fail several times and they still require you to cover shipping. I had the black widow and I had to RMA it twice and almost a third time before I sold mine on craigslist.

I've had my Razer Habu, Mamba, Lycosa and Orca for almost four years now, with the exception of the Orca's for ~2. None have failed me with the exception of the Habu, which was my fault since I more or less threw it against the wall. Fixed that up and it still works flawlessly.

Picked it up, took it home to clean off the dust bunnies under the caps and plugged it in. This thing looks brand new and the board is evenly lit and the LEDs are bright, even on the lowest setting. I'll have to get used to having blue lighting again after having used the Sidewinder X6 for a long time. To be honest I do prefer the soft red glow of the Sidewinder but the key feel of the Blackwidow make up for it. All the keys feel great and seem a bit quieter than I remember from the regular Blackwidow... maybe because it's fully broken in?

The guy also got himself a Deathadder Black so he wanted to throw in the Razer Naga and Mamba, both of which I rejected. I got my Spawn not long ago so I didn't care too much for either mouse

I am sorry you had such bad lucky with Razer products, but I felt the need to post just because I have always had such a great experience with them.

I have both a razer keyboard and mouse and they have been the best ever (No I am not sponsored by them or anything, just impressed by their product longevity and quality)
Just my opinion

Razer does have some well made products but their quality has gone down a bit for their mice. I know the DeathAdder line could use a retooling but it seems they made improvements on the DeathAdder Black.

So far the keyboard feels great to use and since it's mechanical this should last quite a long time. Retail price of their stuff could be lower though.

I have a Razer blackwidow and it is great! I have had no problems with it. I definitely recommend it at $50. That is a good price for a decently built mechanical keyboard, but if you want something that feels better, I would recommend a filco or something of the sort as they feel even better but they cost more.
