what vcore are you running at 4ghz? i might be able to give you some guidance as i have overclocked upwards of 10 of these to 4-4.6 all on different boards lol

I was running it at 3.2GHz. The problem isn't so much it fails in Windows or fails tests, but my PC HATES cold booting. Like in the morning you turn on the pc and no video appears, and Windows doesn't boot. Reseting bios often doesn't work and takes multiple cmos battery removals and "clear cmos" button pressing/holdings to finally get it to boot, and often have corrupt bios that needs reflashing.

Googling my mobo + boot or cold boot finds lots of people with the same problem, and many say it's just the board is so crappy.

My cpu has probably also degraded due to me being a careless craphead.

OK..mobo cpu and RAM
Mobo: http://www.frys.com/product/6552883?source=googleps

Cpu:Not available for 2 days but..3770K

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147094

Why the p8p67 pro? It's mature..and works great!
also handles heavy overclocks wink.gif
of notable mention:p8z68v-pro

the RAM? best RAM you can get short of spending >$200 for an 8gb kit
It handles all platforms at all the speeds with good timings. It especially shines on Sandy Bridge.

No tongue.gif but you might. http://www.microcenter.com/at_the_stores/index.html
You have your location listed as California. There's one in so. cal. and one in nor. cal. Might end up being worth the drive.

There are quite a few great quality boards for z77. It might come down to just finding out which features you want the most.

With your $700 budget, figure ($200) for cpu and ($50-100) for ram, depending on how much you want, that would leave around 400 for the mobo. You could easily just go straight up to the Maximus IV Extreme and cover all your bases. Although, I would try to save a little and put that towards a future 7970 or 680, or whatever comes out down the road.

Other notable mobos:

ASUS Maximus V Gene

ASRock Z77 Extreme6

ASUS P8Z77-V PRO or DELUXE or WS

GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H

Also, keep in mind, there are some who say that z68 boards are great too. They also offer pci 3.0 with a bios upgrade I believe (which isn't really an issue since there isn't much difference with current gen gpus) and are more mature in terms of drivers and bios.

So, basically it boils down to features, looks and cost. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come in here with a more definitive answer. tongue.gif
