Did i do this right?

Thread Starter
So it's my first time overclocking, read a few tutorials, and so i went into my asus a8n32-SLi bios, went to jumperfree, made the fsb freq 205, made the cpu freq 8.5 times and upped the voltage one knotch... did i do this right? it still says my fsb multiplier is 10x, but i changed a cpu multiplier from 8x to 8.5 x. are they the same thing?

did i do everything correctly? my temp only went up 2 degrees. pc wizard says my proc can do 2 gHz but is at 1.7 gHz. so i did this all wrong?

1/2 multiplyers are odd, they effect the CPU but not that RAM.
Anyway, try to get the highest OC you can @ defaault voltage, then when necessary up it a notch!

ok.. but i didn't unlock the cpu adjusters... they're unselectable. i think i changed the wrong thing what i'll do is change that back to 8 times, i'll put it back to stock voltage, and put the fsb freq to 210 from 200.

btw specs are in sig.

I believe the 3800+ has a 9 or a 10 multiplier (if stock speed is 2.0 it is 10). Anyways, set it at its max multiplier, no reason to be using 1/2 multipliers at this point.

matty, did you look over this FAQ? Very good, not real long either.

i'm confused... in the cpu settings it says my fsb multi is at 10x (the max as you said) but is the cpu multi different? is that the thing i was playing with earlier? i set it to 8.5x from 8 but changed that all back to auto and just put my fsb freq at 210 mHz.

I'm running 2.1 gHz now, haven't tested for stability yet tho. i'm gonna do this tutorial you sent.

Yes, earlier you were fiddling with the multiplier of the CPU. Remember, CPU speeds = FSB*CPU Multi. Setting your mutilipier at 8 is actually downclocking your CPU. Now that your multiplier is back at 10, and your FSB is at 210, your running 2100 mhz, or 2.1 ghz. Your doing fine! Just keep pushing that FSB up until you see instability, at that point up the voltage, rinse and repeat. Just be sure to keep your temps <55 at full load. Later on you will have to mess with your ram timings / dividers, for which I would suggest reading the FAQ linked. So far so good though, your getting the hang of it!

EDIT: Im sorry, I didnt answer your question lol, yes the CPU and the FSB mutiplier are one and the same in this instance.

oh, lol actually my cpu multi is at 8 stock, i went to 8.5 and 205 fsb but instead i lost 300 mHz in the speed. however, it says my fsb multiplier is 10x. there's two different multipliers right?

but i'm gonna keep doing what i do, moving up in it

the multipliers you speak of are one and the same. it should be set at its stock 10x. Leave that alone at 10 for now. Raise the FSB # from 200 to 210. (take the multiplier you originally changed and make it a 10 again.)

ahh, just discovered after playing with that multiplier they're the same, only the one i can't adjust is just a reading

well, i raised the fsb to 215 and, even though the multi is 10x stock, i set it to manual and put it at 10 anyway just in case i have to lower the multi later.

soooo..... do i just keep going up and up till i start get instability? i'm only at 2.15 gHz right now, i just rebooted two minutes ago and my cpu is sitting at 41 degrees C idle (my pc is always a little on the hot side but it's good) so should i go big increase? like could i safely go to 2.4? and if i do, should i just run prime95 overnite? i have about 30 minutes before i'm gonna hit the sack for the nite so i'd like to set it to get on prime95 before then.

by the way thanks for all your help everyone, rep for all!
