GPU and CPU 100% same time.

Thread Starter
Not sure where to put this thread, its a CPU/GPU/Benchmark issue.
I've been having issue with several things and trying to pinpoint the problem. However during some private benchmark tests I realized I'm unable to run my GPU at anywhere above ~50% while my CPU is toasting a storm at 100.

So, My Question:
Can you run your CPU at ~100% AND your GPU at ~100% at the same time?
Thanks! thumb.gif

Well, try OCCT, it has a powersupply test feature that maxes both and it gets pretty close to maxing them actually.

Yes, I run my CPU and GPU at 100% a lot when folding.

When you say problem, do you mean the benchmark fails? Or does your system shutdown? Your PSU seems more than adequate for your setup.

Yup. *GPU test isn't supposed to hit 99% due to in software throttle to prevent over heating on gpu*

Hey thanks guys,
I'm getting artifacts in a lot of 3D applications and I notice once I start getting these artifacts my GPU throttles down from 630mhz to 50mhz, which is obviously the cause. However I'm trying to figure that Issue out as to why it throttles down, whether its a failing PSU or something else.

I just installed OCCT, and it tried filling in 21gb of unused RAM before it started testing the GPU/CPU and almost started a fire. However artifacts did not show up and my GPU remained at 630mhz throughout the test.

The investigation continues.

The benchmark would eventually fail, system never shuts down, just display driver fail/black screen, then it gets sketchy. My PSU is fine for wattage, however I need to test it for any degredation or faults soon. Thanks

EDIT: Well, I just got this during my second run of the test. It seems my GPU down clocked from 630mhz to 403mhz during its stress. Also notice the smeared fuzz from my fuzzy donut. :'(

Would this be considered a PSU issue?

Picture looks pretty normal to me

You've got to look for artifacts or consistent FPS drops, the later because GPUs these days have error correction which actually makes them work slightly harder to avoid artifacts, which you'll notice in an FPS drop.

Not sure about the downclock though.

maybe your cpu is bottle necking the gpu, if its already at 100%while the gpu is at 50% logic says the cpu is the problem imo??
i shouldnt be tho?????????

Is your "?" key sticky ?

He was already able to max both the CPU and the GPU.

lol yup is sticky worriedsmiley.gif
he didnt max both at same time gpu@50% while cpu@100%
thinking on it more have you checked the voltages and temps of the cpu while crankin it? maybe its gettin to hot and throttling down??
edit opps meant GPU not CPU

He used OCCT, it maxed. He says so in his second post.
