GTX480 in SLI or GTX680?

Hello everyone im looking to get a videocard that can play bf3 fully maxed out on ultra. I have a maximus gene V mATX board which can only use up to two cards. I hear that the 480s produce a lot of heat, noise, and need a lot of wattage to run while the 680 is power efficient and produces much less heat and noise, not to mention that its brand new. The 480s are cheap 199 a piece while the 680 is expensive at 500. Im thinking of going with the 680 and then some time down the road throw another one in. But im gonna be disappointed if the one 680 doesn't get at least 60fps in bf3 multiplayer on full blast ultra.
Any suggestions will help. Thanks

What resolution are you playing at? I would recommend the GTX680, you can get 60FPS+ at Ultra settings if your playing at 1920x1200 or less.

Hi,
680 for sure and this gives you the option down the track to put another 680

pair of 480's with a decent overclock (on air) will benchmark and run pretty much on par with an overclocked 680 but with much more heat and more power consumption, both will run 60+ on ultra. i would certainly go with a 680 in your case if you dont mind spending the extra money, especially if you dont like noisy cards.

No you will not be able to maintain 60 FPS minimum on multiplayer with all ultra + 4x MSAA with a single 680. I'd say you'd never go under like 50 though, just guessing.. or you could just turn MSAA down to 2x or use FXAA instead of MSAA and I'm sure you can do a minimum of 60 FPS. Single player is a different story in which case 680 will max everything with 4x MSAA

MSAA is just the killer, without that everything is simple.

The 480's will be only slightly better than the single 680 but the single 680 leaves you an upgrade path and is way more efficient in terms of power and heat.

680 dude, no question.

Unless you could get those 480's for 150$ or less, no way.

Definitely the 680. Just got one a couple weeks ago and I'm very happy with the noise and temperature levels compared to even my old stock GTX 580s.
