[Kotaku] China To Launch a New Console. Price Tag: $600! - Page 3

Did the arcade version of the XBOX360 come with the games preloaded like this console or were they included as a disc? If so preloaded games are nothing new but I'd like to see more companies take this on board.

I wonder if it will be called the CT510 when it hits retail. It's kind of an odd name but it is a full 150 better than a 360 wink.gif

And as far as I know we buy all kinds of things from China, I don't see why a console should be any different as long as it can compete with the big three.

Do I think a Chinese game console will be successfull?
-This is hard to gauge, it would have to do really well with hardware sales and massive franchise hits.
Am I interested in another gaming console?
Not really, so my opinion is a little biased.

Agreed on all points!

So were the devs. According them, yes, all they needed to do was scale.

Unlike a PS3 emulator which will likely come after a PS4 emulator, if ever. PS3's design was way to unique.

A X360 emulator wouldn't be hard at all, it's x86 based...but...well...not many people are interested in it compared to a Wii or PS3 emulator. Cause almost all good X360 games come to PC, if they don't ,not really worth playing then tongue.gif

Don't forget XBOX. I went looking for an old game and wanted to find out if I could play on an emulator because my console is broken...

welll... found out that there is a years old xbox emulator, that could barely play any games past the opening screen.

It made me sad frown.gif.

Well yeah, there aren't many Xbox games people wanted to emulate...once again, they were Microsoft games usually and came to PC, so no reason for an emulator tongue.gif

I know tongue.gif.

Phantom Crash was such an awesome game though. I wish it came to PC (Or even PS2, tons of EMUs for that)frown.gif.

One Emulator.

One.

And it has finally reached 80% compatibility. A astounding feat, because the PS2 itself used a unique processor design, the Emotion Engine, it was...sort of a 4 core...for 2001. At least multi-threaded.

It had a dedicated thread for sound &, graphics, and general processing and all that stuff. It was pretty amazing hardware for the time, hence why it was SO hard to emulate.

Then, Sony did the same thing with PS3, except now it's a 8 Core Monster which is completely unique. The people made PCSX2, the only working PS2 emulator, said a PS3 emulator is highly unlikely to ever happen and all the supposed ones out there right now are fakes.

But since PS4 will be x86...it may be possible to make an emulator for that.

But consider this.

For the PS2, you need 3.2GHZ dual core or higher to get full speed in alot of games, some need 4GHZ.

PS2's peed?

333MHZ.

So you need at least 10x the power, processing wise, to emulate it...imagine the PS3...PS4..?

The Chinese know how to pirate and how to reverse engineer well enough - so a console that can play XBOX, PS3 and Wii games? I'd buy one for the novelty (if it worked tongue.gif ) !

This exists already. PC + emulators = console that can play all console games. That's all a cross-console console could be. In order to push the limits of dated hardware, games are usually tweaked to a specific console's hardware, so hardware emulation would be required. This creates more overhead processing, requiring more up to date hardware then the console's being emulated.

Wait, you know of a PC equipped with emulators for X-BOX 360, PS3 and Wii? That all work, play just like the real consoles themselves, and actually truly do 'exist' as you put it? eek.gif

In theory anyway. Like someone said, the PS3 is tricky due to the unique CPU. I'm just saying that any universal console couldn't really be anything other then an emulation box due to hardware differences. Well, I guess someone could try building a crazy frankin-box with the hardware of all major consoles inside, that are switched based on a selected mode, but that would be crazy expensive and excessive compared to emulation.

What? The Xbox 360 isn't x86 based, it's PowerPC based just like the PS3, except it's a conventional configuration with 3 PowerPC cores rather than the Cell arrangement.

And a working Xbox 360 emulator? Proof, a HD video posted by yourself. None of that fake or streamed crap on youtube.

I would like proof as well biggrin.gif I want to play FM3 and FM4 but I don't want to buy a 360 just to play those two games.

can anyone think of any product China developed on its own that was actually successful in the world market? I don't mean something produced in china by a foreign company or a Chinese firm copying a foreign product.

I dont think international consumers have embraced Chinese brands yet; it's hard to believe that China's break out international product is going to be in the well established console market already dominated by huge companies like Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. At $600 it's hard to imagine it being too successful in the domestic market either.
