Try the new Ubuntu release, I'm going to say it's actually a refreshing one from Conocial. So far they have a few shell like glitches but it's turning out to be half decent. I could get stuff good with portage but this boots at around 450-500MB and runs FF12 just as well as gentoo would. So far, it's been a smooth experience.

Yeah, I'm sick of fiddling with everything to get crap to compile. I know how all that works, and after all that while you got a nice performance boost. In most stuff, games ect..., it didn't really matter so I'm done with that for now. lol I'll just compile the packages I find need customization. haha

Which is why I use Arch in most cases now and not my Gentoo install tongue.gif No need to tinker with compiling unless stuff needs a little hacking/patching.

Yeah but I've found distros that do package management tend to be better if they are heavily supported. i'm not trashing Arch, but stability in Ubuntu compared to Arch is generally much better. Not to mention, feature wise Ubuntu is actually pretty damn amazing. There are a lot of things Ubuntu does that only really works in Ubuntu. Like my audio, it actually works with Pulse and Ubuntu but wont' work in Arch/Gentoo or even my favorite Debian. =( I get output, but now that I've got a mic I kind of want it working LOL

I hate to say this, but Ubuntu 12.04 is actually good. Unity is still a far cry from the perfect GNOME 2, but it's shaping up to be a decent desktop shell.

I don't see this thread funny at all. I see it as a dry sarcastic mocking from somebody who's bored of "configuring". That's the allure of Arch/Gentoo/Slackware, complete control. Once you've achieved your complete customization it's all maintenance, which is dull. Though Arch really isn't hard at all, it's on the same difficulty as any distro that allows network installations from base installs. I see the person wondering what there is to do, and instead of making a pointless simple thread that means nothing they could have done something like try a new distro or actually respond to their own created thread.
