Server CPU

Hey,

I'm am running a old computer as a game server/backup holder and am considering updating it. The fist thing i was thinking about was the CPU. What is the difference between the core i7&5's and the xenon processors? And is there any major power consumption or heat difference? Which one would be best in a low price budget?

It depends what socket server CPUs you're looking at. If your looking at Socket 1155 chips the Xeon line CPUs are going to be slightly more robust. Meaning that they're binned from Intel plants they might have a slightly lower Vcore.

Well im currently at a singel core pentium at about 3 Ghz. And are u saying the the xenon processors would be for those who want to overclock?

Edit:
I plan to also replace the mother board if i do upgrade the computer.
