The performance has been pretty poor (30-40fps w/settings maxed and only getting 35-65% GPU utilization...), and the graphics aren't nearly as sharp as I was expecting. Textures look really low res, and their FXAA implementation causes a lot of blurring. Not to mention the animations feel very clumsy/sluggish at times (try jump strafing to see what I mean).

Kind of regret putting my money down so early, but whatever. There's no subscription... so I guess I can just chalk this up as a learning experience.

@DVLux you need to check out this thread http://www.overclock.net/t/816771/official-guild-wars-2-discussion-video-screenshot-thread-beta-server-poll-added/2090 It shows the game in a better light with some good descriptions and screen shots. They've rebooted the servers and now it runs with no lag for the most part according to the last few pages

EDIT: Having a much easier time now.. Melee takes a lot of practice.

I'm having a better experience now...

Mainly this game is terrible for melee. Yes, there is dodging, but you can only do it 2-3 times before you can't dodge anymore for awhile. In that period you get 2 shot. Melee is really bad in this game, and I'm now using a rifle nearly 100% of the time on my Warrior. I'm level 10 with full level 10 gear, and 1vs1 with a level 6 mobs means I get to about 10% health. The game scales you down so, i'm still level 6. The game wants you to kill 2-3 level 6 mobs at the same time in my personal story, when I can barely kill 1.

Damage output needs to be toned down. I'm really not sure how we're suppose to dodge attacks from 3 guys who hit us for 1/3 our health or so.

My view of the beta so far:

- Best New Alternative MMO out there ( EVE Online doesn't count, it's the best game I know if you enjoy spending a lot of time not having fun. But 14 000 ship Jita assault? Me gusta )

Still a LOT LOT LOT inferior to GW1, a lot less tactic, harder to control the character, I miss a lot instances.

After they rebooted the servers last night I had no noticeable lag. Technical issues like the ones they are having are pretty much what this beta is for, so I don't know why you'd base your opinion of the game on that. Listen more to people talking about gameplay, mechanics, graphics, whatever you look for in a game, not the earlier complaints of lag, issues connecting to a server, etc.

I got much better performance when I dropped shadows and shaders to low. I had also dropped my overclock, as I'm pretty sure my pc locked up once in-game. GW2 appears to be a more rigorous test of my OC than SWTOR. tongue.gif

TERA has an insanely boring questing/grind system - crafting is mmm - dying isn't permanant (can't believe that) - and open world PvP has no risk/rewards. I don't know what they was thinking.

The combat also feels pretty sluggish, especially more so first 30 odd levels. You are action locked when doing nearly anything.

Someone put it perfectly in the TERA forums, the TERA world feels dead.

Nice graphics though.

I really am not looking to be rude - but this really does sound like a L2P issue - it isn't as bad as you make it at all.

What did they warn of? A poorly optimized game, or just a really good looking resource intensive one? With a GTX 680.. I'd imagine the first is more true.

I guess everyone i've talked to in the beta needs to L2P. Melee is almost useless when you are solo, if there's 3+ melee with you then it's a little better because damage is spread.

You die if you stay in melee range up against more than 1 mob by yourself. Moving around doesn't fix it, dodging only delays it. You still have to stop dodging to do damage, so you die then. I've put a good 15 hours into the game so far, and I see no way around it. You can't dodge attacks from 2+ mobs and still do damage to kill them as melee. If you want to explain to me how, please enlighten me and all the other people i've talked with in the beta that are now using ranged on their warriors/thiefs.

Ranged is far superior, and far easier. I've been using a rifle with my warrior and I can go up against 2-3 mobs with relative ease. Switch to hammer and 2 mobs will destroy me in a couple seconds even if I never stop moving around/dodging.

On a side note, the game is getting more enjoyable for me, mainly because I only go into melee when I feel there's enough people around that I will get resed if I die instantly. There's serious population issues on my "high" pop server though, after level 13 it's a ghost town. I'm level 16 now and i've been pretty much solo with maybe 1-2 other people showing up rarely for the last few levels. It makes many DEs impossible, because many just don't scale down for 1 person it seems.
