Secondly, if you are not seeing the benifits of traits you either dont understand how the trait system works or are trying to spec into every trait and expecting it to change your world.
This is all not to mention the fact that your <30 skills typically have more than 1 simple effect there are a ton of combinations to make your character the exact way you want to play it.

Swapping between presets is hardly "customization. And most of the skills do have 1 simple effect, and I very much feel that I cannot play the way I want to because I'm limited to only 3 utility skills, 1 healing, 1 elite and my preset weapon skills. Seems more like you're playing like whatever preset ANet decides that weapon should play like.

You have 3 ways to spec in WoW for each character, and your play style and rotation is based on which of those 3 you spec into. Now that it has dual spec, you can have 2 of those 3 specs at all times and switch between them. So 3 weapons in guild wars 2 and it equals WoW in customization, the only difference is you can change that customization on the fly. Each class has half a dozen or more land weapons that fully change their main skills and are different for each profession, and 1-2 underwater weapons that do the same. It's hundreds of skills overall, and they are skills you actually use. Most people in WoW don't touch 80% of their classes skills and most rotations consist of 1-3 buttons, with some cool downs (aka utility slots). So i'm not seeing the difference, other than the fact you are only able to use up to 10 skills at a time and the majority of people never use more than 10 skills at a time in their current MMO.
I'm not seeing any lack of customization, I can see why you think that everyone has the ability to be the same character.. but it's the same thing with every other MMO out there. You just have to visit a NPC in them and spec the same as another person, and in GW2 you don't have to respec to change your skill set completely. The same customization is still there. Maybe i'm misunderstanding you.

I don't know how it compares to WoW. Main MMO's I've played are DAoC, Ragnarok Online and Guild Wars, all of which have much more customization. I used ~20-30 skills in each of those except GW1, as well as in Rift when I played it.

I played the beta from release until yesterday night, and played as much PvP as I could handle. I felt that only having 3 skill slots besides your elite and healing skill really put a hurt on my options for builds, the feeling of having my own character, and the freedom to play as I want. I couldn't drop the healing skill for an escape or more damage to play a more offensive character, I couldn't drop one of the weapon skills for more utility, I was stuck with half my bar preset to how ANet wants me to play, and 2/5ths of the rest of my bar locked to two specific type of skills.

If the PvP in this game doesn't get a LOT better by release I'll probably just sell my account. GW1 was a PvP-centered game and that's what I expected with GW2, instead it's a traditional MMO like WoW or Rift but with worse PvP and little potential for organized play because everything seems 1v1 focused.

Never stop strafing, never stop moving. If you have an attack that requires you too.. make sure you are far enough away to cast it. 99% of the skills can be cast while moving. Don't click anything on your UI. Change keybinds for anything you can't reach (like 6-0). I suggest using `12345QERTGZXCV for all your skills (F is used by the game, and WASD for movement). Make sure you have 2 useful weapons, and use ` to swap between them to maximize your playing (unlocked at level 7). Disable double tap to dodge, and bind it to shift. That way you just tap shift to dodge, and it's much faster and responsive. Dodge when you see a big attack coming, they usually have visuals and "wind up". Don't spam 2-5 hot key skills just for damage, use them for their secondary conditions (there are a few exceptions but not many). Your main damage is spamming 1. By spamming 2-5 when they aren't needed, you stop your 1 combo which can result in less damage, not more (depends on weapon, you have to test and learn).

The above has allowed me to go from level 17 to 22 without dying on my Warrior, it takes a lot of practice though.

That's exactly what scares me about how PvP is gonna evolve some months after the release. Plus, your "utility" and elite skills are the ones with the longest recharge time, so you are always using the same 12345 skills.

Guys, I don't want to have to keep coming back here and reminding everyone of the TOS. All we ask is that you abide by the TOS and respect one another

Thanks

I have yet to play the game but I can say that every video I have seen looks really fun. The only two complaints I would have so far from just viewing is in every video it looks like the player is doing nothing but pressing 1,1,1,1,1,1,1 with maybe a 2 or 3 thrown in every 15 seconds or so.

Lastly and this seems weird, but it seems like players run reallllly slow, yet at the same time combat seems really fast paced. Not sure how to explain this any better but I guess combat just moves so fast that when you are just running around exploring it looks like you're barely moving.

That's how you optimize damage in this game, it's by design. It varies slightly depending on what weapon you are using. 1 is your main combo attacks aka 3 skills in 1 button, 2-5 are almost always conditional skills (that also do damage, but not enough to warrant stopping your combo), 6 is heal, 6-9 are mostly buffs and some skills that can be useful and fully customizable, 0 is your elite. You still have F1-F4 class skills too which are pretty fun to use and adjust per weapon for some classes. (some classes don't have all 4, and ranger's is replaced by his pet).

That's just how the game is, the fun comes from dodging and moving around. If you are anything like me, you will hate it at first but it will grow on you.

How I think of it is... FPS are pretty much running around pressing LMB, maybe pressing G to throw a grenade, and maybe crouching behind something. If you think about it, GW2's combat has more depth than that and many people play FPS shooters for hours a day without it getting old.

In FPS, it's not about clicking buttons in the right pattern, its about better accuracy, tactics, an knowing your weapon's behavior.

In GW2 you lose the tactics and accuracy aspects. It becomes a game of bopit with an awesome interactive screensaver.

That's not to say that most mmos don't eventually turn into the same thing, but at least in other mmos you have to adapt your pattern to varying game conditions.

The real kicker though is that this is not just some mmo. It's GW2. GW1 is the only mmo I've come across so far that actually introduces an intelligent skill, class, item, and class combo system that requires extensive knowledge of all of it's components and creativity in combining them. Players are no longer rewarded for thinking outside of the box. The one redeeming element of this game's prequel has been lost.

But hey, what do I know? Apparently I'm just sloppy with my use of skills.

MMO's will continue to stagnate if they keep up the same formula. Magical fairies and potions that is a button mash fest. What is the goal with this game? Acquire gear and have awesome killboard stats? Until they implement sovereignty mechanics like EVE Online into these games they will always be stale and boring.
