I understand that we only got to see a small glimpse of the final PVP offerings of the game, but so far the combat in pvp seems like it plays a little like team fortress 2 or something, idk. VERY disappointing with PVP.
The PvE seems pretty cool, but I'm worried about the long term of it. What can they really implement into the game to give it that lasting power? As it stands right now I'll probably thoroughly enjoy leveling a toon or two to 80, but then what? Do I start grinding for awesome armor skins that I can't even show off in competitive GvG? Do I start killing the same boss every week for gear so my 1 does 17 more damage like WoW? I don't see what will keep players coming back at this point, but maybe I'm blind.
I do think the combat system is pretty refreshing, but it's not nearly refined enough in my opinion. It just feels off. (DONT WORRY MURLOCKE I FOUND THE FLOW IM NOT SLOPPY)
Also, there were some very annoying things about the beta that I think were just very disheartening. I understand it's a beta, but somethings just seem so simple, why even have to fuss with it-
1. lack of group support - COULD NOT PLAY WITH MY FRIENDS AT ALL. One of us would make it to normal map, next was in overflow, blah blah blah. Lame.
2. lack of group pvp support- From what I could find and google, there was no option to join a game with a friend to where you would both be on the same team every match. This killed most of the fun for the beta for me
3. Can't change most keybinds. like modifiers. They have all these skills assigned to horrible keys. I mean, if I was a yeti, I could maybe reach the 6-0 key comfortably, but I'm not. I would have love to been able to use a shift or alt modifier for my keybinds, but it wasn't supported. This was an absolute game breaker for me and probably most of the reason the combat felt off. IF this isn't in the final game, I.....nvm I'm not gonna think like that. also, f1-f4? Are. You. Serious.
Gonna stop here

I agree that the key binding is horrible. However, is 6 and F1-F4 really a problem? I have pretty small hands and they aren't too bad for me. 7-0 on the other hand is awful. I ended up using T, R, and Q for the 3 utility, and shift for elite. I wanted to use middle mouse for dodging but you can't even use it for keybinds.

6 and f1-f4 arnt a problem for pve I guess, but in pvp when you want to keep moving, it starts to become an issue. I mean, it's do-able, but it far from ideal comfort. 7-0 is just dumb

Well i wanted to throw in my 2 cents about the game. I thought the artwork was really well done and the skills fit with the theme of the game. The voice acting was nicely done even though some parts was incredibly off (Such as a female NPC with a male voice over). Story wasn't gamebreaking, but it was a pleasant experience that I didn't automatically skip over. The events were a fun way to gain experience without feeling the grind, but I agree with the others that they need to balance out the Instance lvl requirements because some are incredibly hard even when you are 2-3 lvls higher than recommended.

Overall, I had a great time playing the beta and I dont regret prepurchasing the game. I bought the original Guild Wars about 2 years ago, but i could never get into it. I hope others get into this game since it seems to appeal to the larger masses with an easier play style.

Oh and all those people bashing on this game needs to calm down. Its still a beta for god's sakes.

I was able to change my keybinds. I rebound all my skills to keys like q, e, r, t, z, etc. since the number and f-keys are annoying to reach for in combat.

Or maybe I'm completely misunderstanding you post. Correct me if I'm wrong plz tongue.gif

Yeah, you could change the keymbinds, but it was very limited to what it let you change. I did indeed change 7,8,9,0 to QERT. So that wasn't too much of an issue. But It's still preferable to me to hit Shift+E over 4 or anything.

So basically I'm talking about the lack of support for modifiers for your keybinds. Like if you hold down SHIFT and press E it would do something different over just pressing E.

This is a much more comfortable and natural solution to me and just about every MMO I've played has supported it (which is why I'm accustomed to it) and I just find it odd it's not in the game this late in development.

I understand it's still a beta, but it just seems like one of those things that should already be in I guess.

I might be nitpicking, but if you re-read my post you'll see I did have a fun time with the beta, and I'll definitely be purchasing, I just hope they implement the few gripes I had.

If you don't like the game, that's fine, but please stop with your negative posts. It seems you are looking for every possible reason to rant more about the game, and now comments like this are just silly. You stated you don't like the game, great, move on. As stated by someone else earlier, your past post history shows you've been ranting for quite some time, even before the betas were public from the looks of it.

A few gamestop stores actually got chewed out for allowing this, there was an Anet post on GW2G stating if your gamestop is allowing this to please report their store number so they can contact them. They were not suppose to give out a beta code unless the person put the full money down, and also have it be non-refundable. Pretty strict, I know.

I agree with that, they did address it on the beta forums and said it should be fixed soon. thumb.gif

I saw some people mashing, but others using combos. I was just curious about if there is an actual difference between smashing and combos? I know theoretically combos are the way to go, but is it implemented correctly is my question.
skill cap:
did you guys notice a high skill cap or is it just ez-mode?
is conquest enough?
I didn't get to see much WvWvW is it just a huge zerg? or does strategy win out over zergs?
Thanks.

It is for the most part mash to win unless you are perhaps a guardian or necromancer...but even then you are balancing an equilibrium between timed disables or maximum DPS...both have relatively the same end result because of the downed system.

In conquest play guardian and you win

WvWvW is mostly zerg. It's not even a fun zerg because everyone is abusing the "dodge" mechanic, which is just spammable invincibility. It's very much akin to the GW1 GVG meta where everyone brought chain aegis, ward of melee, bsurge and weapon of warding every game.

Do not buy this game for the PvP.

Do not buy this game for the PvP.

To each his own. I'm buying the game for its PvP because it is casual enough for me to pick it up on the weekend and not have to worry about having the best gear out there to be viable, but hardcore enough that I have to use some skill in order to be effective in PvP. Not to mention that GW2's PvP system is a breath of fresh air from WoW and Rift's PvP system. I can understand that people who did PvP in GW1 don't like the new system, and that is totally understandable. The focus of GW2's system is to cater towards casual players but make it hard enough that you actually have to play with skill (using tactics and combos) to be better than everyone else.

And I don't see how the dodge mechanic is spammable. The most you can do is 2 dodges every 10 seconds or so until your stamina bar regenerates. Most fights don't last more than 15 or 20 seconds, so that's 4 dodges in a fight that will consist of many, many more attacks against you thus you aren't invincible. I will agree that Guardian was a little OP for this BWE, but I would like to think that Anet listens to the feedback and tones down their toughness and damage in PvP to be more consistent with other classes. And the only reason it seems to be mash to win at the moment is because nobody (and I mean no-one) knows how to properly chain together combos and so everyone is at the same skill level. Once people become better at chaining combos and timing their dispells and dodge's, you'll get a more varying degree of damage output between different skilled players.

This system rewards players who are at the top of their game skill wise, not gear wise. That's a huge plus for me as a player that likes to play hardcore in games but doesn't have the time to devote to getting Gladiator gear. I completely understand why GW1 PvPer's are upset and I respect it. I'm just giving my 2cents.gif out there for casual PvPer's who were looking at this game not to dismiss it because of a different style of player's comments.

I played GW1 since it was released and i LOVE GW2. It wa EPIC.
For those people who are still bashing about GW 2, we get it that you don't like GW2. Then move on Don't come back to thread again.

Its been mentioned thousands of times that GW 2 is NOTHING like GW1. Stop trying to compare the two. If you love GW1 so much why don't you go play it instead of wasting your time in the thread.
