It's not about covering huge distances and being open, it's about content. There are loads of jumping puzzles that end in loot, or secret tunnels (above and under water) that end in bosses or even full on dynamic events triggered by hidden caves (I bet you didn't find any in the starter zones). Heck, even karma venders are hidden in jumping puzzles within cities. To call it average is trolling at worst and sheer ignorance at best. No way around this one.
And the engineer. If you really think skill count any simplicity are the same. Knowing your class isn't nearly as important as actually PLAYING your class, which again is something totally new to MMO's. Scrubs are going to get absolutely steamrolled, which is why I imagine you hated PvP.
So it is very incidental and very organized? Sounds amazing.
So how was your time in the catacombs? Was that third boss only difficult because of the "skill delay?"
And yours look like poop, and they are smeared all over your face.
It only seems conservative if you stood still and tried to spam DPS rotations. How do you put up with WvW even though so many of your negatives apply there? What abouw WvW makes you forgive the "skill delay, incidental teamplay, simple classes, dodge gimmick, mount-less, unopen, half-MOBO" problems?
How did you get into the beta with just a pre-order?
There are legit reasons to not like this game and I understand that it isn't for everyone, but to make an argument like that leads me to believe you have never played an MMO before, are 14 years old, are trolling, didn't play GW2, didn't even watch any people playing GW2, or got your impressions from GW1 players who are just so incredibly upset that this game isn't GW1.
I agree with most/all of his points.
I've played dozens of MMOs (Ultima Online, Dark Age of Camelot, Shadowbane, Ragnarok Online, Knight Online, Silk Road Online, Eden Eternal, EVE, Lineage II, Everquest II, RIFT, Guild Wars 1, probably a dozen small/free MMOs and a couple bigger ones I'm forgetting), am 20 years old, am not trolling, played GW2 for the entire prepurchas beta weekend (3 day LAN party, minimal sleep) and a previous beta, watched several hours of gameplay, and was a competitive GW1 player who is not upset that it's not GW1.
What I AM upset about is that it isn't Guild Wars at all. It feels much closer to Rift (now that I think about it, remarkably so).
I'll see how they work out the competitive PvP scene once it's released, but if it's anything like what's currently implemented in the game, I'll probably sell my account or give it to a friend. If you love PvE, this game might be good for you, but it's not for me.
