965 -> 3570 or 3770

Thread Starter
Hey guys, question is, would Windows feel snappier upgrading from a non-overclocked Phenom II 965 to one of the new IB chips? Work load is mostly browser based, opening 5-10 tabs. I already have 8gb of ram and an SSD, so my system doesn't feel slow, and am wondering if the desktop experience would be noticeable at all.

I almost never max the CPU, but do notice a lot of 25/50% (maxing 1-2 cores), and a would a better IPC/clock be noticeably faster?

I was only considering a 3570 but the price is pretty close, but I was also consider the locked version since I don't really OC due to heat issues in my house.

I think you'd notice a slight difference in things like heavily-filled folders/subfolders of pictures and the like, but overall I don't think it's going to be like, "HOLY *** wow." tongue.gif

Windows will load faster..as for day-to-day things IMO..no.
all the same.. try it biggrin.gif
..and wait til the fall..I have hope for Autumn.
960T is better than 965 BE..by a good notch.
Oh d00d..you gotta overclock..bah..In theory..without overclocking..a 980 would feel snappier than a stock 2500K.
btw ..This is OCN...The first 2 letters stand for Over and Clock..respectively

I kinda thought I wouldn't benefit a ton, I'll probably wait until prices stabilize.

I don't OC for the mentioned reason, my house is hot, in the summer its 80F+ with AC on, not much I can do about it. CPU already get's into the 50C (gaming load) range with a Hyper 212+ at stock speed.

The system will probably be more responsive, but considering that you already have an SSD, it's probably not going to feel a whole lot faster in most situations.

You will probably see a difference in gaming and compute tasks, though.

Nothing, really.

A better CPU won't improve your web browsing experience in many cases, most especially considering the fact that nearly every web browser available is moving away from CPU utilization and towards GPU acceleration.

If you're not saturating your CPU now, you certainly won't saturate it with Ivy either.

You wouldn't notice a difference, save the money if this is your only reason for upgrading.

Microcenter deal was too tempting, so far I notice bootup time is faster :-)

Got the 3570K, cheapo ASUS P8K77 -V LX .. It was the only one they had in stock that had the $50 bucks off, has all the features I'll need except I wish it had heatsinks on the VRM, but since I'm not OC hopefully they run at a decent temp.

Been awhile since my OS didn't have the basics, had to use the CD to get the network driver.

After installing 200mb+ of updates and all my junk, will have to see if things are still snappy.

hijacking your thread, don't think my question is worth it's own thread

Would an upgrade from a 3.8ghz Phenom II 955 to a 3570k (at lets say, 4.4) be noticeable in BF3? What percent fps increase would you suppose I would get by upgrading (sigrig)?
