[PCEvaluation] Intel i7 3770K Temperature Measured Without IHS

This incident has ignited two days culprit IVB loaded with hot, foreign websites overclockers.com full of curiosity to open the top cover of the IVB (IHS) and found the inside top cover and the core is connected to the grease, but not before usedthe materials used in soldering process (tin, and other low melting point metal), which is obviously the practices of Intel in order to save costs, because the behavior of the past, Intel in the use of silicone grease on the low-end CPU has always existed, but this time not even 3770K is no exception. )

Good to know it's not "the grease pit father".

That proves it's not the TIM, it's the tight-packed cores.

Something doesn't seem right though... they got HIGHER temperatures by removing the IHS and putting a cooler directly on the die? Shouldn't that result in at least marginally lower temperatures, despite whether or not this TIM Intel is using is bad or good?

I'm guessing the heat sink was having horrible contact with the IHS because the temps shouldn't have gone up, at least in theory. I'm going to wait for a more conclusive test.

I agree. Even though the difference is within the margin of error, removing the IHS has yielded huge gains for non-soldered CPUs in the past. Even the better-conducting soldered types typically saw a 10C difference when the IHS was removed.

You would only see a few degree difference by removing the IHS. The difference is really negligible, people are getting these same temperatures with the IHS on.

This is kind of disappointing. But at least Intel's record is still intact, in other words, we now know that Intel didn't pull a "bulldozer accident" on us.

i7-3820/ lga 2011 hex cores guys. What do you expect from a mainstream CPU? After much success with 1366 everyone jumped on the mainstream platform. Wait for the next enthusiast socket.
