A quick guide to help you with your times. There's a bunch more tweaks out there to use, but this is just the simple stuff that will save you time.
1. Install your OS. WinXP SP3 or Server 2003 is recomended. As I use WinXP SP3 it's what the guide will be based around.
2. Install GPU and motherboard drivers. I disable all LAN and Sound in the bios so I don't have to worry about those drivers.
3. Run msconfig and disable all unnecessary services. I usually do this by simply clicking disable all then turning Themes and Plug and Play back on.
4. Set your colour scheme to Olive Green and remove the background.
5. It's about this time I usually get my stable ram and speed clocks for running spi 32mb. The usual things apply. High ram speed with tight timings are the key. Disable HT if you have it. You can also benefit greatly from having a play around with your ram subtimings. Depending on your platform use either cpu tweaker or memset. For socket 775 push your FSB as high as possible. For AMD you want to get your NB speed as high as possible and for 1366/1156 getting your Uncore as high as you can will benefit you greatly. If you have an i7 be sure to turn HT off!!
6. Go to system properties, click on the Advanved Tab then advanced tab again. Set Processor scheduling to Background services. Set memory usage to System cache. Now under virtual memory click change. Create a custom size of Initial size 512 and a max of 512 on your c drive.
7. Open regedit. Navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Memory Management]. Select Large System Cache and make sure the volume is set to 1.
8. Run msconfig again. Go to boot.ini tab and click on advanced. Set maxmem to 600 and make sure pcilock is ticked.
9. Once your PC has restarted you may want to defrag the drive. Do this using a 3rd party program such as defraggler as it will defrag your cache. The stock windows one does not.
10. Time to run spi 32m! Open up the program. Open task manager and set priority to Real time and affinity to core #2 (you can test other cores as #2 is not always the strongest). It's at this time you can kill explorer however, killing explorer is something you will have to test yourself. It can vary from system to system.
11. Run spi 32m and once it has finished, open task manager again (crt+alt+delete) under applications tab go to New Task. Run explorer.exe to get it back.
12. Take your screenshot and happy times!
As first stated, this is a really quick and rough guide, but will help reduce your times a lot. You can also look into OCX tweaker which will again shave seconds from your time.
Anyone feel free to add anything they like!
