when i kill explorer and minimize in XP, i cant get the window to come back into view once i restart explorer.. when i click (right- or left-click) on the minimized icon down in the taskbar, nothing i do will bring the window back into view for a screenshot. Anything i do to get the window restored, it just flashes the little "Pi calculation is complete" window at me..

in windows 7 i can get it back, but XP i cant

You don't have to minimize the actual application. In my experience you don't even need to kill explorer as long as you have the Olive Green theme, times will be the same if not faster. Just something to test out for yourself smile.gif

Yep in my experience, killing windows explorer doesn't give you zilch, it does nothing. Difference between blue and green theme is small, but it is there. I've heard the minimise myth go around a few times too and that does nothing but keep you in suspense as to whether or not the bench is still running.

This is far from maxing out efficiency on Z77, but I'll show it anyway to give you an idea of what can be achieved by following the guide. 90% of the tweaking is done with ram subtimings, the OS, themes, waza etc all come a distant second to the performance increase they will give.



An untweaked run at 4ghz on Ivy can land on the wrong side of 8m, so these tweaks aren't just giving a small bump to help you up the rankings, it's making a huge difference.

Another vote for a low clock 32m challenge. tongue.gif

is waza the same thing as OCX SPi tweaker? I DL'ed OCX but haven't yet figured out exactly how to use it lol.. I'll try and learn more about it next chance i get

I'd love to have a 32M low clock challenge... for ivy i think 4.8ghz would be better than the 5.0 that XS is doing for their low-clock challenge (since not all ivy chips are easy to run 5.0ghz on air). Either way, i think it's a great idea and a great exercise for the team!

OCX SPi tweaker is an automatic waza tool, you set the parameters and it does the rest, great little tool.

Basically you need 2 partitions, one for your SPI files (can be the same as your OS partition) and another partition for the waza files to be copied to. Your size setting is the total size that will be transferred between the partitions and your file size is the size of each individual file that will be copied. Sleep time is the amount of time the program waits after finishing a transfer of your specified size.

This takes a lot of time to get right, it will be frustrating. You will see results stay the same, you will see results get worse but eventually you'll see a faster run. I think I've got it down to taking between 2-3s off my Ivy runs, but I'm sure I can tweak it a little more.
