Super PI 32m tweaking guide - Page 5

Basically you need 2 partitions, one for your SPI files (can be the same as your OS partition) and another partition for the waza files to be copied to. Your size setting is the total size that will be transferred between the partitions and your file size is the size of each individual file that will be copied. Sleep time is the amount of time the program waits after finishing a transfer of your specified size.
This takes a lot of time to get right, it will be frustrating. You will see results stay the same, you will see results get worse but eventually you'll see a faster run. I think I've got it down to taking between 2-3s off my Ivy runs, but I'm sure I can tweak it a little more.

1.) maybe im overthinking this.. what files are being transferred? the files get transferred upon executing SPi or doing a calculation?

2.) so im going to need to do a fresh XP install to make the new partition if i dont already have two partitions?

3.) so basically tweak the sizes and sleep time til i get something that gives favorable results?

1.The files are transferred when you run the SPI tweaker, which is before you run 32m. The files are generated by the tweaker.

2. That or you use the tool in W7 or some 3rd party program that allows you to shrink, delete and create partitions.

3. Essentially yes. I'd say the easiest thing to do at first is to set no sleep time, run spitweaker and watch the performance tab in task manager to see how long it's taking for available ram to rise back up after the files have finished transferring. When it's running, ram availability should fall, then after it's finished that will start to climb back up. Use a stop watch to time how long that's taking.

Having Pi on a separate Drive helps too.. as well as setting your Paging File properly. I use 630MB PF on C: and run Pi from a separate drive with no paging file when I use Waza.

Definitely not a USB drive, unless you like terrible results. tongue.gif

I've heard of people setting up a ram drive and getting small gains, but I haven't tested that myself.

If you don't have a spare drive you can always split your drive into two partitions.

yeah i do.. kind of..
i own 3 ssd's.. one for XP, one for win7, and one for non-benching stuff.. I suppose i could pick up another cheap 60/64GB drive to use just for SPi, so long as its actually worth it. or i could use multiple partitions ... i dunno, we'll see

Buying a new hdd just for spi is definitely not worth it. The "gain" it will give is so small it could be attributed to a bag of rice falling over on china. I just use partitions and I'm not doing too badly. wink.gif
