S1CK fan mod_Zalman 9500 on st3r0ids - Page 3

Nice Job! I liiike it!

Sometimes its entertaining and a learning experience just to do mods with what you have, regardless of the more logical alternatives: Golem in the gears.

I think that I will try that with mine one of these days as I have all the parts.

if you get the right fan, you'll easily shave 5 to 9 degrees off; i'm lapping the zalman tomorrow (maybe the cpu too) and hope to drop another two or three.

You should achieve that w/ no problem. I lapped my 9500, but not the X2 3800 that it sits on, and got a decent drop.

i think it could still be made more efficent... if you think about where the air flows out of the fan then some will blow of the points of the blades. On your mod the fan slightly overhangs the heatsink hence i dont think it is as efficent as it can be but good job anyways

the mod is limited by the fan mounting mechanism; with the 9500, you've got these sort of soft metal arms that come up off the main cpu block that the main fan spindle attaches to and you can bend them (slowly and carefully) into a shape that accomodates a larger fan that hangs *outside* of the fin assembly ...

hard to say if you could mod your 7000 with a larger fan ... i haven't seen one up close.

best thing ... and if the 7000 has a fan mounting system that bolts together ...

take an hour or two and dismantle the thing ... look at it's parts and use your imagination ...

hey!!!

what'dya mean "so it still looks good'??!!

there's nothing finer looking than a big *toothy* white fan hanging off the side of a rather beautifully designed set of heat pipes and cooling fins.

:-)
