lower CPU for better GPU?? what do u say?? - Page 2

At $212 w/2 GB of ram... the 460 GTX SLI is excellent. I was afraid you had spent in the 300+ range. You're on par w/a near $400 580 GTX, without the issue w/low vram that I have.

I have had 460 GTXs in SLI. I don't have any issues w/SLI compatability. GTA4... Metro 2033... Crysis... I've played those he's named and a ga-zillion others. Nivdia releases drivers constantly to ensure compatibility. I can't think of a time SLI didn't work properly. The only issue I've had in a few years was a few hiccups w/3D vision, but it was always corrected w/in a few days w/beta drivers followed by a WHQL release.

I'm unfamilar w/a 7950 but I think they trade blows w/a 580. I'd say you're good where you're at. If you want to upgrade GPUs a year from now... I bet you can still get at least $75 if sold separately.

That w/a 3570k/2500k... w/a GPU upgrade in a year or two... you should have a solid system for a while. I'd probably keep the 460s another year if not for 768 vram irking me here and there.

Yep. The difference in price covers the cost of the cpu and then some.

460 gtx sli = 580 gtx. Plenty of benchies exist proving this. For $212/pair... its a great budget build. You can recoup most of that in a year or so when(if) you want to sell 'em and upgrade. For now, I don't know of a better nvidia route. 448 core 560s are 250-300 and slower. 580s are 400 and similar. 680s are 500 (if you can find them), and faster... but, well, 300 more. More than twice as much.

ATI guys feel. Free to chime in on that brand. There maybe a good competing card, butso far as nvidia, its a great bang-for-the-buck combo. Especially w/2gb of vram.
