Quick question.

Thread Starter
So I have two Sapphire 5770 Vapor-X and I am looking to upgrade.

Would purchasing a 16/16 Crossfire motherboard provide a better performance increase, seeing as mine is currently a 16/4. Or would buying something like a 7870 provide a greater performance increase?

7870 would provide a better performance increase :thumb.gif
IMO they're overpriced by about $50 though
Look @ 7950..or even 6950..

Wouldn't an overclocked 7870 outperform a 7950, also didn't AMD just make it so you can't BIOS flash the 7950 into 7970s?

A overclocked 7870 will out perform a stock 7950. But if your OCing the 7870 why wouldn't you oc the 7950? RIght now due to pricing I'd just buy a reference 7950 oc it and be ahead about 1gb vram, that's of course considering your debating between the two.

This would be a referance card yeah?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102962

I'll also be more than likely placing it in my liquid cooling loop after buying another radiator and water block.

As a general rule anything that doesn't have a special cooling system like Vapor-X, Frozr, etc would be reference correct?

I won't run into any bottlenecking issues when upgrading to a 7870 or 7950 will I?

CPU is OCed to 4.21Ghz, can't go any higher without bluescreening in prime95 instantly :|

Seems as if there's no waterblocks for the 7870s yet, so I may just take the leap into a 7950. Though it won't be anytime soon, maybe a month or so. Prepping my eyefinity setup (where the extra ram from a 7950 would be useful, yes?) for Guild Wars 2 thumb.gif

I'm no expert but everything I read if you plan on running eyefinity then yes 7950 for sure over the 7870.
