You're welcome! AFAIK you can switch the minimize, maximize and close button to the left side just like the OSX interface i think it's called leftsider but AFAIK the creator stopped developing it for Win7 and only works for WinXP...not sure tho if the dev continued it.

Wine is a compatibility layer used to run windows programs within windows. about all it works with well is source based steam games and wow. if you want things like battlefield, crysis, etc wine can't do it. it can also be a pain to set up(at least it was the last time i tried a year or so ago). Not for you.

Also, if you're expecting all your games to work with a macbook(on the mac side) you're in for a rude awakening. The skin route CramComplex told you about looks to be the best option for you if you just want a new look. googling "windows 7 skin" will find many more options as well.

Wine is emulated windows. Some games work, some games work well. Almost no games work without tweaking. There are a few games that are native to Linux, but they're pretty few and far between. I do like OTT Deluxe though.

If you game, stay with Windows. Apple is garbage, although steam support is getting better. Without Steam support for Linux, it will continue to not be considered as a viable gaming platform.

I use Linux for pretty much everything. But I keep my Windows rig and turn it on when I want to play something.

WINE IS NOT AN EMULATOR

This really makes no sense to me. An OS is really on there for a few reasons, to enable file management and to provide an environment in which to run programs. The modern OS does a lot of other things, like manage network connections and sound, etc., but the OS isn't supposed to be something you really use except in service of something else.

But if you haven't used OSX before be prepared to feel confused. There is definitely a learning curve. It may be worth learning, I service computers for a living so I have had to learn my way around OSX.

Irrelevant.

The name WINE originally was WINdows Emulator. This is what it's supposed to do. I know I know, now it's Wine Is Not an Emulator.

It's a compatibility layer. Happy?

From WineHQ "Wine lets you run Windows software on other operating systems. With Wine, you can install and run these applications just like you would in Windows."

It's still a necessary evil of using Linux. Nothing about it is simple or easy to use.

The WINdows Emulator definition hasn't been used for 15 years. WINE has changed massively since then. These days it's just a re-implementation of Win32 APIs so Windows PE files run natively on non-Windows platforms (essentially via a wrapper, much like how NDISwrapper works)

@OP: Windows used to be really easy be skinned. In fact there were whole projects that did this (Windows Blinds seems to ring a bell?)
I'm not sure how easy it is to do in the post-XP era, but it used to be as simple as changing the shell=explorer.exe line in win.ini.
