Hello all,

I was hoping someone could help me out or point me in the right direction. I am new to overclocking but have been reading this forum and others trying to figure out why I can't overclock my amd fx 8150 past 4.0 ghz I have an asus crosshairs formula v board 16 gb 1600 ddr3 and a 1000 watt power supply it's probably user error but if someone could share their overclock setting that would be great Ty

Hi. A great place to start is here; http://sites.amd.com/us/Documents/AMD_FX_Performance_Tuning_Guide.pdf

My 24/7 O.C. is 4.3GHz at 1.36V under full load.

Maybe you can post some of your bios settings?
what voltage are you on .... what happens over 4.0 ??(BSOD or not stable?)
give us some info so we can help you out

Edit: 2advanced nice overclock ... i need much more voltage for that, you got a good one there

Multiplier is 20
Voltage is 1.28
Everything else is set to auto
I disabled turbo core and cool and quite
The problem I run into is under full load using occt it overheats in 3 min

yeah some chips run hot very fast .... use prime95 to do stability test's
and check temps with hwmonitor occt is jumping on me with temps and i have the same mobo as you

Edit: check all core temps not just cpu socket! don't let the temp's go over 62c
And what CPU cooler do u have?

Thermaltake sleeve cooler, so let me ask you should the only settings I touch be the CPU voltage and the multiplier to get a stable overclock I was hoping to see an every day speed of 4.3 or 4.4. Would you be willing to post your setting so I could compare ? Thx for your early reply I will try prime 95
post #7 of 22
yeah in theorie you should only up the cpu voltage and multiplier. (Start with multi till it's unstable and then start upping the voltage. but always watch your temps!)
i can post my settings but the the fx chips are all different.(you saw 2advanced who only needed 1.36v for 4.3 stable i need 1.42v for that, most FX chips do for that matter)

CPU voltage : 1.4875
Multi : 23

and i have a H100 with 4 fans that can just keep my temps below 62 on stability test's
so that's an issue to watch because some fx chips really run hot

It took a second 8120 to get that clock speed on that voltage. I sold the first one due to it needing much more voltage. At 4.7GHZ, I need 1.52V under load. 4.5GHz needs 1.44V under load. I am only Overclocking with the multiplier BTW.
