Anyone remember that press release about the "670ti" which was to be "the successor to the 560ti"? You know, the card we now call a 680 and is selling for double the price?

I remember seeing photos of that 670ti, but then Nvidia must have had a clever idea! Now that photo is nowhere to be found, I need not say anymore!

So what Nvidia boys are saying is the GTX 680 was supposed to be a mid-range card but it's being marketed and sold at a high end price?

Nvidia are geniuses...

When your competitor sets the bar lower than expected this gives the rival several options, it's business.

Using pcie 3.0 at x16, not 2x x8. Or if you wanted to run quad sli it wouldnt be x4. And yes, I know about PEX chips. I like native support from cpu, tyvm.

GTX690 = 2x GK104 Cores ever so slightly downclocked from the GTX680 (also GK104)

GK110 was rumoured to be the flagship, but whether it comes out as a GTX685 or GTX700 series is another story. We may know more on May 15th during an Nvidia conference announcement.

As much as i do want GK110 to come out, i do feel that current GTX680 adopters will feel kicked in the balls so to speak, given that GK110 is far more powerful than GK104.

I agree. Besides, 680 just came out, relatively speaking. OK, the graphics card business is a fast-moving one, but still, I'd be kicked in the balls too if I just bought a 680 and found out the next day Nvidia is already making another one...

But on the positive side, from what has been reported, this isn't a cripple like the GTX590 so in some ways it could actually prove to be reasonable value.
Lets just hope they didn't skimp on the vrm's this time so that people can actually push these cards thumb.gif

$1200?! And the REST! We already pay $200 extra for a 680! Im thinking at least $1300, but more than that wouldnt surprise me either...
$AUD != $US so you have to be careful when stating that you actually pay extra.

isn't there the issue of SLI not supporting every game correctly? and micro stuttering?

i still prefer single GPU for less hassle.

What's even funnier is that people think for "the first time ever omg" they are putting two of the top dog chips on one pcb with out holding back at all but really, they are just doing the same thing as usual and putting two mid range chips on one pcb because they can get away with it this generation because their mid range chip was on par with AMD top dogs. Kinda sickening honest.

It kind of makes sense on why we didn't hear anything more than garbage rumors about the 600-700 series and how people didnt even know if it would be called the 600-700 series for so long because nvidia was waiting to see what AMD dropped, and if it was good, they would have probably launched the g110 and called it a day. Since it wasn't they just used the g104 as top end to make more money off less research so now they can coast on it for a while and not worry.
