The 690 looks like some futuristic video card. It'll probably be heavy enough to beat someone to death with it, lol.
The $1k pricepoint hurts though. Despite it being pegged to equal 680 SLI performance, we all know it won't. Dual-GPU cards never scale as well as a dual-card configuration. The advantages are less power draw and maybe the fact that it won't need 2 lanes to use 2 GPUs, but if you're considering a 690 in the first place, that's a moot point. People have raised points about cutting waterblock costs, and I think that's the only valid point. That makes me laugh though, because it looks like they put a lot of work into making the heatsink work nicely and quietly.
Well yeah, if you're willing to wait, price ALWAYS gets better. But that's not what we're discussing. We're talking about the price out of the gate. If we all wanted to wait, then nobody would have a problem with GK104 shortages. C'mon man!

690 costs 999$ cause:
1) They don't have enough dies to satisfy existing demand of 680, so they will not undercut themselves on that front by selling 2 GK104 dies that are higher binned for lower profit margin.
2) AMD doesn't have anything to combat it, so they plan to profit of that for as long as they can.
By the time 7990 hits 690 would get a price cut making it competitive against AMD flagship, plus by that TSMC production rates would hopefully increase allowing for enough dies to be produces to satisfy every SKU demand.
