Help with GTX 460 and BF3 crashing

Thread Starter
When I play BF3 on my PC with the latest stable drivers and no overclock my screen sometimes flashes while playing and usually crashes soon after. I have tried the beta drivers and that only makes it worse.
I have tried allot of things such as removing the overclock on my processor and changing the settings on BF3.
Can anyone help me? Is this a common problem that cannot be fixed until newer drivers? I don't know what to do in this situation.

Also I didn't know where to put this thread so I don't care if this gets moved to a more appropriate place.

I ran these drivers until recently and they were always solid for me http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7-winvista-64bit-290.53-beta-driver.html

Change the directx option or you can increase shader clock, memory clock, and core clock thumb.gif

The PSU is alright, not the best of brands for a power supply so it's probably putting out less wattage than it's rated for.. The card uses about 150 watts though, which isn't much, so I doubt it's the power supply unless you have a pretty serious CPU OC going on too. I would suggest, for the time being, setting everything to stock clocks/voltages for now to eliminate variables.

Like somebody said above, check the direct x version under game options and see what it's set to.. if it's currently set to 10 try 11 and see what happens. Somebody also said raise the shader/core/mem clocks - I don't suggest this because that will only increase the chances of artifacting or other issues.

.

"What he said.." smile.gif You only overclock on a stable system. OC'ing your GPU is only going to make this worse by adding a potentially unstable GPU overclock to the problem. I would also look into possible memory leaks. When you say crashing can you define what happends? Dose the game freeze, Crash to desk top, dose the entire system "lock up" or need to be hard booted or BSOD? Moar info on the specific's of the crash please!

Also, are you by chance using EVGA's Precision OC tool? I have personally had this program cause all kinds of unexplainable issue's with a wide range of game's so I only use MSI's AfterBurner software, or SAPPHIRE's Trixx OC tool. I have looked into the problem and it seem's Precision OC tool and Direct X won't play nice on some title's. Hope this helps best of luck... I still love my 460GTX even though its a little on the older side of things:)

EDIT: forgot, yes, should have more than enough power to run that GPU, it would be nice to know the rest of your rig. You can fill out your "Sig Rig" on your Personal Profile page:)
