The GeForce GTX 690 may very well be the first dual-GPU graphics card that emerged in full form, free from compromise. It’s the world's fastest graphics card by a wide margin. It’s quieter and consumes less power than its predecessor. It’s crammed with features that eliminate jaggies and sustains smooth framerates. And to top it off, it’s made of the finest materials, expertly constructed, and with a look that speaks directly of the power that is housed within.

At a MSRP of $999, it's not a graphics card for everyone. But for enthusiasts who demand the very best and gamers who want a graphics card that will last for generations, the GeForce GTX 690 represents the ultimate in gaming from NVIDIA.

Kepler GPU Architecture:
NVIDIA's Kepler GPU architecture has been designed from the ground up not just for maximum performance in the latest DirectX 11 games, but optimal performance per watt. The new SMX streaming multiprocessor is twice as efficient as the prior generation and the new geometry engine draws triangles twice as fast. The result is world class performance and the highest image quality in an elegant and power efficient graphics card
.

Up until now, GPUs have operated at a fixed clock speed when playing 3D games, even if they have the potential to run faster. GPU Boost intelligently monitors graphics work load and increases the clock speed whenever possible. The result is that the GPU always performs at its peak and you get the highest framerate possible.

Nothing is more distracting than framerate stuttering and screen tearing. The first tends to occur when framerates are low, the second when framerates are high. Adaptive V-Sync is a smarter way to render frames. At high framerates, V-sync is enabled to eliminate tearing, at low frame rates, it's disabled to minimize stuttering. It gets rid of distractions so you can get on with gaming.

The GTX 690 uses hardware based frame metering for smooth, consistent frame rates across both GPUs. (In other words - say goodbye to micro-stuttering, which is *sometimes* perceived by *some* gamers in ALL multi-GPU setups, whether it's dual-GPU cards, or two/three/four single-GPUs in SLI).

Source: Performance Perfected: Introducing the GeForce GTX 690

Quote:
Improved Frame rate Metering
Kepler introduces hardware based frame rate metering, a technology that helps to minimize stuttering. In SLI mode, two GPUs share the workload by operating on successive frames; one GPU works on the current frame while the other GPU works on the next frame. But because the workload of each frame is different, the two GPUs will complete their frames at different times. Sending the frames to the monitor at varying intervals can result in perceived stuttering.

The GeForce GTX 690 features a metering mechanism (similar to a traffic meter for a freeway entrance) to regulate the flow of frames. By monitoring and smoothing out any disparities in how frames are issued to the monitor, frame rates feel smoother and more consistent.

I will be very interested in how these perform. Might make me regret going sli if the scaling is good enough.

I wouldn't regret it one bit. Your still going to be ahead in performance as the 690 is going to be expected to come within 91% - 95% performance of two GTX 680 SLI.

Don't look back bud - your already there! wink.gif

Only difference is aesthetically the GPU metallic casing with LED lights.

Am I the only person on this planet who doesnt like leds? The solid casing is cool though. I feel like when you pay > $500 for a GPU they should do a bit better than a plastic shroud

^This.

Those who have a GTX680 SLI don't need to regret their purchase, a GTX680 SLI will still be more powerful than a GTX690, both at the same price. wink.gif

Great looking card for those who prefer having a single PCB dual card, I prefer 2x physical cards though. thumb.gif

I'm gonna need two for 3dvision. I wish it was 4gb per gpu, since games will only use 2gb per core.
