In the maximus v extreme for SLI you should populate the 1st red and the 3rd red as stated by asus in the manual since you'll get the most bandwidth that way assuming no other red slots are populated. As for the razor sli bridge, there's only 1 model out right now so you really don't have a choice on which slots to run it in, unlike EK that has multiple lengths that skip slots.

I am sorry, but that is incorrect. The Asus manual does NOT state that, in fact both the written one that came with mine, and the downloadable one CLEARLY state that when using two cards in SLI then slots PCIe 3.0/2.0_x16/8_1 and PCIe 3.0/2.0_x8_2B, should be used.

The first one is the first red slot, and the second (2B) is the black slot.

As to whether there may be a difference if using the second card in a different slot, I simply don't know the answer. But both the slots suggested run PCIe 3.0 and in SLI (dual) would be running in x8 mode (native). Thats the equivalence of x16 PCIe 2

As to the distance of the XSPC SLI bridge, ........I now have an answer from XSPC themselves. They have notified me that the length is 21 mm and so is unable to be used.

On M5E it is advisable to use first red slot and the black 16x slot for 2x SLI because it'll use native CPU lanes, bypassing the PLX chip and provide most performance. That's straight from the mouth of Shamino, the designer of the M5E board.

Just get x2 koolance gtx 690 blocks with the adjustable 1-2 or 2-3 SLI bridge. That way you can choose to run them in either serial or parralelle and get the blocks to fit your mobo instead of the other way round.

Otherwise you're talking a big gap between blocks and regular tubing would work fine for that. 61mm is a lot of room.

Watercool have announced that their GTX 690 waterblocks are close to completion, and that photos of the waterblocks will more than likely be out at the end of this week.

The coolers are to be based on the new and improved cooling structure of the HEATKILLER ® GPU-X ³ GTX 680. They have also made it known that 690 backplates will be available with the blocks.
