Those cards are 3-4 year old not 1-2. And we wont see any upgrades in resolution until 2k tv's start coming out, or when display port starts becoming the new thing, because dl-dvi and hdmi cant support 1080+ @120hz. Maybe more demanding games since new consoles are coming but still, a single 690 will eat all the new consoles combined sevenfold.
Not to mention cards back then were rather weak compared to todays tech. This is the first generation in a while a single GPU card can play any game at 1080-1200P since crysis.
With that being said they will become oputdated but not nearly as quickly as the GTX 295.
I'm of the mindset that the monitor should be among the most expensive components you purchase... after all, it's the part of the computer you spend time looking at. If you're the kind of person to drop the dough for GTX 690s you can probably get a nice monitor. If I didn't purchase an Apple display I would have bought HPs ZR30w. It has 111% of the Adobe RGB gamut and has among the lowest input lag of any IPS monitor on the market. Check out the review at http://www.anandtech.com/show/3754/a-new-30-contender-hp-zr30w-review
Looks like the first ever 30inch worth gaming on. Thats really exciting!
