Try switching your dvi monitor cable to another port and see what happens. Thats the only thing i can think off as to why your picture would tatally break down like that. That can also bring up the blue screen telling you that the computer has recovered from a serious error. Dont downgrade your drivers as you shouldnt have to do that Go into your nvidia control panel and have a browes in thier and see how your config is setup but try the monitor cable first.
I'm pretty sure the reason the monitor goes black is because of that driver not responding error. I think the nvidia drivers crash but they do not recover.
I did 4 hours of stress testing the 690 and there were no artifacts. Right now I'm testing the card in another computer to see if the issue follows the card to the other machine. I'm running my old GTX 295 in my machine and I'm having no problems. Hmm...
