[Official] NVIDIA GTX 690 Owners Club - Page 493

I had a long talk with my friend last night who is a engineer at Nvidia and they will be releasing a gtx 790 that uses 2 full 780s on one pcb like the 690. It will have 3 gigs of ram x2 and a lower tdp than 780 sli like the 690. They tried to develop a 790 using titans but couldn't fit 6 gb x2 on the board, plus I guess the dual titans created to much heat and required to much power . I believe nvidia will be announcing it by the end of the month, but I'm not exactly sure when they plan to unveil it. Sounds pretty cool to me!

I don't know how much of a improvement it would be considering my. 690 hits 20500 3d mark 11 overclocked and sli 780s hit about the same. I use a 2560x1600 hp monitor ?

I would definitaly think the improvement would be nice over 690. Plus the extra 1GB Vram could become handy.

If I get 650 for it and buy the new one for 1000$ that's 350$ for a 10% increase?

I think it will be more than a 10% increase

Also SLI 780 should score more than your 690 OCed. Or are those 780s stock?

Price tag will be crazy unlike the decently priced the 690.

Two 780's could be another 590 fiasco unlike the 690 made from two 256 bit GPU's. Hope they don't have a repeat.

Will be a great card if it works out. A niche of consumers it could fill gap for. Makes you wonder if they are going to drop the 780 prices and if the 790 be priced x2 accordingly rather than cost more.

EDIT TO ADD: i'm going to be hanging on to my 690 at least another two years as I am handing it down to my second rig this month. Glad I purchased the extra EVGA insurance which will have me protected under warranty for total of five years. It's been his best GPU purchase I've ever made when all said and done. Had it since day one launch. thumb.gif

I hope they lower the prices of the 780 so I can go SLI sooner.

What will you do in the future? wait for 8xx series or perhaps 9xx series?

That 690 is still amazing.

According to my friend it will cost no more than the 690. But the tdp cap will make it slightly less powerful than 780 sli just like the 690 is. So I don't know if 350 $ is worth 1 gig of ram and a little increase in performance. I love my 690 still thought I got it the day it came out and still it's the most powerful gpu ever.
