Guess it depends on the games you play. I kill FPS in BF3 even with dips. Crysis 3 maxed settings no AA is the only game I see dips a little below to about 51 FPS on my 1440p.

I think about another year 690 aka 680 SLI is going to be fine for those not ready to upgrade. Can always turn down settings and still stay relevant.

Only negative I see is pricing hasn't come down yet. It will mostly go out of production and fade away rather than price reduction is what Nvidia tends to do.

Mines is going into a second rig as I've said soon to power my 3D gaming on my 120 Hz system the kids use. I still enjoy a one time run through 3D vision on a new title release. smile.gif

Yeah good point mate, im playing on a Dell Ultra-Sharp u2713H @ 1440p. And i was beginning to feel the card was not good enough anymore, so i just traded my 1 year old ASUS GTX 690 with a 2 month old eVga GTX 780 Hydro Copper. I have a caselabs s5 comming my way, and planning to add a 780 hydro copper more for sli. Then i should be able to play any game with decent settings again for some time (i hope) smile.gif

Really wish I could undo the screw on my 690.

I really wanna watercool it.

Eugh, tried everything so far... well everything suggested to me.

Rubberband, superglue... trying extra hard.

is the memory bandwidth a bottleneck or one of them for the 690? what makes you use more memory bandwidth?

You have to drill the screw...

Well I said eff-it last night and flashed my 690 for 150% power boost. All these 290x, 780ti threads are making my wallet itch. rolleyes.gif Only noticed 2 things after doing it: was able to get another 5mhz stability out of the GPU, and I noticed during 1440p Heaven benchmark there is visibly (perceptively?) less ripple/stutter right where I would always notice it when panning along the ship, and the spin around the dragon. only went up bout .5-1 degree on the water cooling during benching. Something is dicked on the score though, it's showing me about half the score I should be getting even though I'm seeing 44-82fps for the run. I dunno bout that.

Just downloaded BF4, and after going mad for an hour over the flashing rainbow sherbet texture issue I'll try it out tonight to see what I get for FPS when in multi player maps with everthing pegged.

I would hope I could get at least another year out of the 690, but when I built the system my baseline was for a build that would not dip below 65fps at 1440p with max gfrx settings in games, while not needing 1kw power or enormous water cooling loop setups. I'm still having doubts that I will get 3-4months out of the card before I want to upgrade. Looking at the reviews though, I think I'm stuck till Maxwell to really get good gains for money over the 690 investment. Unless that 780ti really turns out to be something magical.

IMO I think you're going to be fine until Maxwell comes out. Battlefield 4 is only taking 2.3 GB of VRAM in order to play and I don't foresee any other games that's going to require more demand out of your GPU anyway.

If you purchased your 690 on release, this has been the best bang for your buck considering that it is still a strong graphics card.

From speculation it seems that Maxwell will be coming out around July August 2014 timeframe.

I think we are running out ot VRAM smile.gif Here is my Battlefield 4 test. I have 100 +- 20 fps all the time in large and action map!! Kind of the same/better as it was in Battlefield 3 (interesting).. But BF4 "eats" more VRAM as BF3 did. What do you guys think about this?

What do I think? I think you might be right because I can't confirm my numbers since afterburner doesn't officially support the 290X. My readings In AB could be askew.

I'm getting game lock ups that I have to crash out of on the large 64 person big conquest maps. Audio starts shuddering and the screen freezes until I crush it with task manager. Think it might be my overlcock causing it now, but I was wondering about being over the limit on VRAM for those large maps.
