1100T won't go beyond 4ghz

Thread Starter
1100T x6 (core boost disabled) (cooled w/ Corsair H100)
8 GB Corsair Vengeance 1600
Gigabyte GA 970A UD3 (currently cooling NB with a clip-on fan)
1000W PSU (Silverstone brand? donated from a buddy, works great)

New to overclocking, I've read pretty much everything I could find on my mobo and cpu. For whatever reason, I can't get the

A) CPU to run stable at or above 4ghz and/or
B) overclock RAM beyond 1333 for periods over 30 minutes

I'm not at home, so I don't have the exact numbers right now for that computer, but the system runs stable on a core voltage around 1.47, RAM voltage stock at 1.51something, CPU freq around 250, and CPU around 3.8ghz total.

I read somewhere that when overclocking RAM, the voltage needs to be raised to 1.65. When I did that, the system wouldn't even show the Windows load screen and gave me some kind of overclocking warning. I'm overclocking the RAM to somewhere around 18XX.

I ordered MOS-C1's and a kickass NB cooler (fan) to keep the temps down (I hope to get the FSB to somewhere near 300 (maybe above biggrin.gif)). Running Prime95 (something suggested everywhere) with the stable ~3.8 ghz setup, CPU temps were around 38 C max, and NB was about 40 C max.

Thanks for reading. If you reply, please remember I am new to the OC'ing scene, and much of the slang is awfully foreign. Also, if you're interested in helping but need more exact detail, please let me know so I can post it when I go home Monday.

EDIT:
I haven't been able to reach a stable 4ghz. Kalistovals's setup enabled me to load windows, but as soon as I ran Prime95, my PC crashed. Here is my current stable setup.

Vengeance isn't even good for overclocking, i've had no luck. BUT as far as DRAM voltage, you really shouldn't need to raise it past 1.52. I prefer to run mine at 1333 7-7-7-20-1T, since that's about equal to 1600 9-9-9-24-2T. Try to raise your CPU/NB voltage as well as your cpu-nb to 2800 or more.

But, I can't really help you with the CPU. My 1090T won't go 4 GHz stable no matter what, within reason i mean. I won't risk going outrageously high on volts and fry my chip for 4 GHz, so i've settled with 3.7 with CnQ on to keep it well, C and Q o-o 1.42 volts at 3.7 is perfectly stable, for some reason I just cannot reach 4 GHz stable. ALWAYS bluescreens.

That was fast, thanks!

What kind of voltage should I expect raise my cpu/nb to?

That's a bummer about your 1090T, but 3.7 is respectable biggrin.gif
post #4 of 13
Probably limited by your motherboard here. I've heard a few stories about the 970A-UD3 not being able to get chips too high. My 1045T reaches 4GHz super easy @1.35v on my 990FXA-UD3. Keep trying different settings, but in the end if it still does not work, you may want to sell your board and get a 990FX chipset.

coming from a 1100T owner set your cpu multi to x20 leave the fsb at stock 200 leave hyper transport at 2000 or raise it to 2200 set ur north bridge to 2600mhz leave ur ram at 1333 try to post a snipet of cpuz so we can see ur ram spd timing tables im runing corsair xms3 1600 (oc) rams but never run them in 1600 mhz i run them in 1333 at 7 7 7 19 27 1T its just as fast as 1600mhz and wont dammage my imc on my 1100t toggle ur cpu voltage anywere from 1.410v to 1.47 anything higher than that will dammage ur cpu these are my settings

cpuVDD 1.410v
cpu-nbVDD 1.200v Note this is the northbrige in ur cpu higher voltages can cause more heat or dammage ur cpu it can never be higher than cpuvdd
cpu v auto
cpu-nb v auto
dram v 1.65v I have xms3 dont know if my voltage works for u as u have vengance urs are suppose to be slightly better at lower voltages
NB v 1.2v Note that NB means ur motherboards North Bridge
Hypertransport Link v 1.292

You also must diable the fallowing in your bios
Amd turbo core technology
Spread Spectrum
Cool and Quite
SVM
C1E
and Cpu Phase control if applicable

now your ram u should check cpuz under the spd tab u will see ur rams timings i have xms3 they are corsair so u might be able to pull this off or probly even better i set mines to the fallowing

1333 Dram frequency 666.8 MHz
fsb:dram 3:10
cas (CL) 7
rastocas (trcd) 7
rasttoprecharge (trp) 7
Cycletime (tras) 19
bank cycle time (trc) 27
command rate 1T

if u dont feel all to safe about mimicing my settings i suggest u try ur motherboards built in bios overclocking feature when it sets the oc settings
and change a few things using my settings as a foundation note that (VDD) is the actual voltage applied to what ever chips voltage u alter

THANKS GUYS.

I'm to give this stuff a try--let you know what works.

NICE. Kalistoval's CPU setup has me running just above 4ghz.

However, the temps for my CPU don't show, and my NB temp is questionably low. I don't want to run Prime95 until I can be sure of the temperatures--do I reactive CnQ?
700

I'm going to look into changing the timing of my RAM as well.

THANKS AGAIN

NVM, temp is showing now.

Running Prime95, Kalistoval's setup fails almost instantly (thanks for the help though thumb.gif), and I get a blue screen with technical jargon. Here is the stable setup that I have been using.

1.48v eeek beware or cpu degradation if u need that much voltage to barley get 3.9 ghz and ocing via bus and multi somthing is really weird about that board hows ur oc coming along since ur last post lol@the amd phenom II X6 1105T btw the first cpuz u showed with a 4ghz overclock ur core voltage is a little to high u might wanna take that down a little also i dont know if this might help u but i have my hypertransport at 2600mhz ur bus speeds say they are at 201.4mhz why?

M8 decrease the HT. Ht dont offer better performance and sometimes when you put it around 1800 you have more stability in your overclock. You should use more your multiplier to overclock. Try to lower your bus freq around 220 and increase your multiplier. Also try to play with the settings of LLC for better stability.
