RV02 Build Log [Case Swap]

Thread Starter
Sup gize, this is my first build log. It is written personally for me but decided it might be fun to post it here.

Ill be moving off campus next semester, subsequently I won't be required to carry my computer through the dorm every couple of months. This finally gives me the chance to have a full tower for the first time. This will be my third case. Prior to the HAF 912 I owned the Raidmax Smilodon, which I used for my first build. The space each provided was sufficient, and then the GTX5xx series happened. Its rather cramped in here so its time to move. Plus I miss having a window.

Specs:
ASUS M4A77TD Motherboard
AMD Athlon II X4 630 (Had it OC'd @ 3.5GHz but didnt see enough improvement to keep it)
Zalman CNPS9700 NT
G.Skill 8GB Ripjaws X DDR3 1333
EVGA GTX570 Superclocked (Factory OC'd)
Cooler Master GX-750w Power Supply
Crucial M4 64GB SSD (Windows 7 Boot Drive)
2x Western Digital RE4 500GB HDD
Seagate Barracuda 500GB HDD
HT Omega Striker Audio Card
Zalman 4 Fan Controller

Plans:
-Free up the cramped space for my parts, hopefully providing better airflow. (I will be doing some idle temp comparisons)
-Ironically the CNPS9700 NT marketed for being ultra quiet has become unbearably loud. I have a total of 5 120mm fans. (w/ one Scythe Slipstream which is silent) During a heavy BF3 session I will crank them up to about 2000 RPM and I can still hear the Zalman over all them whilst under load. It needs to go!
-Make it attractive with things like $w33t blue LEDs, and sleeved cables, cable management.
-I need a new storage dump as it seems my 500GB LaCie is on her last leg, perhaps a 1TB. (*Note to self: Dont ever buy a LaCie product again. I've got 8 year old drives that still work but this ones quitting after 3 years?!)
-Considered: Upgrading to an i5 2500k. Concluded that it would not be worth it right now. Waiting til post Ivy Bridge release will be more cost effective as prices will most likely drop considerably for the i5.

Final Parts List:
Silverstone Raven RV02 full tower case - $169.99 [Purchased][Shipped]
Corsair H70 CPU cooler - $79.99 [Purchased]
2x Cougar Vortex Silent 120mm fans (for the H70) - $16.99
NZXT Sleeved LED cable kit - $17.99 [Purchased][Shipped]
Various NZXT Sleeved cable extensions - Appr. $15 total [Purchased]
Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM HDD - $99.99

Pics:

Will be posting more pics as parts come in. For now heres my current system.

FT02 is pretty much the best computer case known to man. I truly believe this. RV02 is a far second.

That's something I seriously considered before purchasing the RV02. However as it is, my funds are being pushed to their limits. IMO the RV02 and FT02 are among the best looking cases. The FT02 looks better, but not $80 better. tongue.gif

Ya $80 better is a bit steep, I would go for the RV02 myself as well at this point.

I suppose this should be moved to the Intel build log section.redface.gif I caved today. Microcenter had a great Ivy Bridge + z68 combo deal so I picked up a 3570k. Add to the fact that most of the used 2500ks for sale were the same price as a new 3570k it made more sense to me to get something new. I was unaware that the Asrock z68 wasnt IB compatible out of the box. After 3 frustrating hours it got to the point where I was mad at myself for possibly shorting or damaging a brand new board. I finally researched and found out the BIOS needed to be updated to support SB (huge facepalm). Since I didnt have any Sandys I had to take it to a small shop where they did it for me. The cabling right now is atrocius right now (not even worth taking pics of the back).
