Need help choosing memory

Thread Starter
Which would be better for me?

CORSAIR DOMINATOR GT 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 Desktop Memory with Airflow Fan Model CMT8GX3M2B2133C9

DDR3 2133 Timing 9-11-10-27 Cas Latency 9
Cas Latency: 9
Voltage: 1.5V
Multi-channel Kit: Dual Channel Kit
Timing: 9-11-10-27
This is $120 and I was thinking of adding a 2nd pair in the future for a total of 16GB.

OR

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-16GXM

DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Timing 9-9-9 Cas Latency 9
Cas Latency: 9
Voltage: 1.5V
Multi-channel Kit: Dual Channel Kit
Timing: 9-9-9
This is $130 and I read these can be overclocked to like 2400MHz anyway, but to be perfectly honest this my first build and I have zero overclocking experience. And I also realize this is an overclocking site but there has been so many people with such good advice, I am asking anyway. But I am definitely willing to learn.

My build so far:
Intel I7 3770k
Asus P8Z77- V-Deluxe
Corsair H100 Water Cooler
Coolermaster HAF-X-RC-942-KKN1
Western Digital Caviar 1TB 7200rpm 6GB/s 64MB
SSD Corsair Performance Pro 128 GB
Coolermaster Silent Pro 800w PSU

I have monitor, keyboard and mouse but have not decided on optical drive. Definitely want a Blu Ray burner. If anyone has any recommendations on one that would also be appreciated.

As far as GPU, I am going to try and wait til next month when the money is a little better and use the iGPU for now, which I have read isn't that bad. But I would definitely want a good one. So recommendations are welcome also.
Thanks in advance for any advice I can get, whether it's on my question about the memory or anything about the rest of my build as it is my first time and am learning as I go.
I also know a lot of it is overkill but I would rather it be too much than not enough. TY.

To answer this question we really need to know what you use this rig for. In either situation you won't be able to tell the difference of 1600 cas 9 vs 2133 very easily in real world situations. If anything 1866 is a better option than 2133. 8GB is PLENTY for just about everything you will be doing as well, but if you are hosting a lot of VMs or something like that where 16gb of ram is utilized, then go for it.

IMO go with a 1866 or 1600 8GB kit and put the rest into your GPU/monitor(s)... rolleyes.gif

I would say to go with a 1600MHz kit. I'm using Corsair Vengeance right now. It was dirt cheap, and the timings are 9-9-9-24 1T with the XMP profile.
