OC advice - Sabertooth 990fx / Athlon II X4 635.

Hi guys,

First time posting here, hopefully there's someone who can help.

I've been overclocking my rig over the last couple of days. I'd like to know what else could be done to improve performance/stability.

Corsair 550r case
Corsair 650W psu
Asus Sabertooth 990fx mobo
Amd Athlon II X 4 635 2.9Ghz
Corsair Vengeance 8GB Dual Channel 1866mhz DDR3 Memory Kit (CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9)
Nvidia 460GTX.

Here are my current stats

CPU is running at 3.5 GHZ

1.368V
Multiplier X 13.5 (can't increase this, not a black edition)
Bus @ 260Mhz
Temps don't really exceed 45C, idles at about 38C

Ram is at 1739Mhz - totally clueless as to if this is even proving a benefit over 133Mhz with this CPU?
(voltage left on auto, which is 1.5v)

Now the computer isn't really stable, it crashes out of software such as Shogun 2 benchmark, but it doesn't appear to BSOD or crash at the moment.

Could anyone advise me if I'm best leaving the RAM at 1333mhz because of the cpu?

Does anyone know what all these options are on the Sabertooth mobo?!

Does anyone have experience of overclocking this CPU, and if so how did it go?

Really hope someone can help me out : ) - first time here.

Thank you!

I've had to turn the Ram down to 'atuo' it's not running at 1390Mhz, As it stands now the CPU is still at the above settings but the system isn't stable when running prime, it runs games ok though!

The things you need to know about OC an Athlon II on air.
1) Cpu temp under 62c.
2) Cpu voltage 1.55v max.
3) Keep HT about 2000.
4) CPU/NB speed as high as you can and CPU/NB voltage 1.5v max.
5) Can Ram (memory) speed around stock speed.

Thanks for your advice! I'm a bit nervous going over 1.400V to be honest, should I be?

Current have it stable running at

3.4Ghz, 13X5 multi with bus of 255. Anything over and it seems to be blue screening. I'm suspecting it s because of the voltage, im running it at 1.368V.

MEmory is running stable at 1700 mhz now : )

Phenom II and Athlon II series CPUs are perfectly safe up to 1.55 votls on air. There is absolutely no danger going up to that voltage as long as you keep the temperatues reasonable.

Thanks for your reply smile.gif

Just out of interest, does increasing bus speed increase system temps? Or is it entirely dependent on the voltage ?

Both... however, raising voltage has a much greater effect on tempertures then raising frequencies. devil.gif
