1080i vs 1080p theory vs actual experience?

ok i have been using 1080i for a while,i love it!my question i use a led hdtv (toshiba 24sl410u)great screen by the way for me!
according to the web led screen are progressive, and have to go out of their way to do 1080i!if this is the case why am i perceiving way better quality.no not better quality because that would be incorrect term!the quality is the same since both are 1920x1080.but i get less tearing and artifact in 1080i

2 :vsync?from what i gather it lock the screen to the hertz?wich one?the one you set it at or the 60 hertz one that should be 59or so?
cause if vsync lock to your actual setting in windows(29 hertz)i dont say gpu cause for some reason even tho we re set at 29 gpu still say 30 and i suspect if vsync use gpu value ,it would probably be set at 30 and i would get screen issue
(or 59 hertz)
i never used vsync because if i recall vsync used to lock to 60 hertz not the setting you put in window screen setting, wich is a nono for me!

see the dilema ?

another thing:is it possible to control deinterlacing via window 7 not via amd or the screen itc,i already disabled the screen itc.ty for info
screen want to control it ,graphic card want to control it was hopping ms would control it since they tend to be way more reliable on the software end!

I've owned two 1080i displays, one a 32" widescreen CRT television, and a 52" DLP projection television. I've also owned several 1080p displays, currently own a 32" 1080p television. The 1080p is miles better, 1080i is not even remotely as sharp as 1080p from my experience. I have never used a 1080i LCD though, I guess it would probably do this so that a panel that isn't 1080p capable could at least run 1920x1080 resolutions, even though it is only getting "30Hz" versus 60Hz.

i am happy with 1080i ty!i am at 23 inch so it is the same!i just need to know what i posted above
if i was at 60 inch i might see a difference but at this level!nope no difference,(ok minor adjustement but you need to calibrate screen anyway so it isnt an issue !

You are only able to get 30 frames per second out of 1080i, but if you are only watching movies, it's not a big deal really. If you are happy with it, that's all that matters.

EDIT

Somehow, in a sleepy state of mind, I managed to put "60 frames per second" instead of "30 frames per second", but fixed it now.

Why can't you get 60 FPS from1080i? I've often encoded live shows that are 1080i60 to 720p60. 1080i60 is 60 fields per second. They are frames of half height. It's a great way to pack an awesome picture into a lower bit rate.

The main difference between interlace and progressive is the way they refresh the pixels on the screen. With an interlaced display it breaks the screen down into horizontal lines of pixels and refreshes the odd lines and the the even lines alternately at a rate of one every 1/30th of a second. With progressive scanning it refreshes the horizontal lines in order at a rate of one every 1/60th of a second.

TVs pre HD all used interlaced since NTSC and PAL broadcasts are limited to 30 and 25 FPS respectively. But interlaced can look distorted especially when viewing content over 30 FPS.

No, that's how an interlaced picture is drawn by vacuum tubes, and you're not even right about that.

Even fields are drawn in 1/60 second, then the electron beam shoots to the first odd line, and the odd fields are drawn between those even lines in another 1/60 second.

Today, on panels it is bob deinterlaced to 60 progressive frames of half-height resolution, up-scaled to 1080 "lines" and displayed as 60 progressive frames per second.

There should be no combing on any panels. If your TV, no matter if it's CRT or a panel, is drawing even and odd fields together at 30 per second, there is something terribly wrong.
