if they wouldn't add new units, the expansion would be a portion of the story, some maps and some UI / balance changes
and you know what that is?THAT IS A NEW CALL OF DUTY
only hardcore SC2 players, you know, the one that's already playing it, will buy this expansion if that's the case. Might even lose some less hardcore players who are disappointed with this expansion
If they want to attract new players, or the already-quited old players, they need to bring something fresh to the table.
words spoken by an ignorant person.....i am sorry but let me explain how different this is to the COD series. Blizzard had originally planned to bring out three games one representing each of the three classes in the game series. Me being a big SC fan i dont agree with how they are doing it, but from a company stand point it makes sense because they will make money. The COD series brings out the same game over and over again 5 times (i think they are up to 5 clones right?) and only reskinning. Before you fire back at me with "WELL THATS WHAT THE NEW SC IS" They also offer to the SC fans the continuing story (much more in depth then anything the COD series has brought to the table) as well as different gaming mechanics (playing as a single character rather then just the standard RTS mode), more story (ok so COD did this...but so did every single other game...) all new mulitplayer units there by CHANGING how someone might play a specific race or strat (COd has been the same garbage since MW1). Blizzard isnt going to milk this series, as it has taken them a very long time between SC1 and SC2 compared to COD where it has a game "planned" every year.
By bringing new units to the table, this brings old players back and brings back the competition. The same strats that worked in the first game might not work in the next this is invoation making someone change how they play or do something they wouldnt normally do. You cant assume they are going to lose hardcore players with this expansion when it hasnt even come out yet, as many of the true fans are going to be wanting to play this out. They might even keep it so you can play the old expansion multiplayer and never even have to go to the new units of the newer game (I dont know if they are gonna do that, but it could be a good idea) there by keeping the "hardcore" players in the original.
