Im SuperPI calculate 1m and then tell us how long it takes your CPU to complete the task. You will see a slight improvement from stock yes but nothing outrageous.

Hi,
I really don't know what exactlly going on. Before, I use pentium 4 cpu 3.4...when I OC 'em I can CHK by doing the Movie convert to DVD ..the speed faster...you can feel it but with this one I see on the clock report 2.4 increase to 3.4 but don't realy see the speed that fast. Welcome all suggestion. I'm new in this stuff and willing to learn more. Thank you

Well if its slower then the P4, you have something wrong, maybe ram maybe something else. Post a screen shot of CPUZ open one for the CPU info and 1 for the ram info(current settings) also the more info you give the better someone can help.

Why or did I do any thing wrong? Thanks
Nero is based on the harddrive and cd writer speed the cpu had no effect on that

Well there is 2 problems I see with your CPUZ shots, the first being the memory divider you should be running at least a 1-1 ratio between the ram and the FSB of the chip, in other words your ram speed should be the same as your FSB(379mhz) you are currently running 379 on the CPU but only 284mhz on the ram. The second problem Im seeing is your timings, you are running at speeds of PC2-4200 chips, so your timings should be alot tighter then they are, I think your ram runs on 4-4-4-12 timings at DDR2-800. You have DDR2-800 modules so you need to bump up the ram speed to at least 379mhz and you need to tighten the timings to what the ram is designed to use, if you look at the next CPUZ tab it will tell you what timings are recommended for what speeds.

As for the point of overclocking, it is a big thing because you can buy a cheaper chip and overclock it to the same speeds or higher then the fastest CPU available(IE, instead of spending $1000 on a X6800, buy a E6600 and overclock it to 2.93ghz thats a $700 savings for the same speed. Also it sustains some huge performance gains in many areas, like calulating programs, folding yadda yadda, and you gain a few FPS's on games and it also speeds up your system as a whole, for example in a game or in a benchmark your graphics card will become faster with your chip overclock, because the CPU isnt bottle necked as bad.

Overclocking is a means of squeezing extra performance from a chip made to run at a certain speed. Its almost like upgrading your PC, but for free. Sometimes you may see a significant gain and sometimes you may not. There are lots of variables involved with what kind of gains you can see. You mentioned that's it not much faster once overclocked, but it is faster nonetheless. Whether you choose to keep it overclocked is more of user preference.
