60Hz vs 120Hz BF3

Thread Starter
I'm interested hearing from people who have actually tried both 60hz nd 120hz in BF3. is it a huge difference?

I find it a lot smoother - i wouldnt say a "huge" difference, mainly cause i dont get 120fps in the game too often.
not just that game, but any game is a huge difference. i don't get full 120 frames, but about 75+ is where you start to feel a dramatic difference.

in short...no. I get from 100-200fps in BF3 and I did not notice anything that justified the cost of the monitor. I sent it back. It is not going to make you a better player.
Gameplay difference? Maybe not a whole lot. But if you aren't blind in one eye, and going blind in the other, you'll SEE a difference.

I have tried both. A 60hz 1440p IPS Catleap and my 120hz 1080p TN Samsung.

I find a 120hz monitor in FPS games is worth it only if your GPU(S) can output the frames, ideally above 90fps, then 120hz is lovely, everything so smooth.

60hz to me (with vsync on) is just jerky/stuttery and no way near as fluid with mouse movement. I am one that will never go back to 60hz for games like CS/BF3. Even for those times you are not gaming, 120hz for your desktop is magic. Look at the OCN hype for these 120hz Catleaps, IPS and 120hz!

People will no doubt chime in and say IPS>TN and I agree for Image Quality and viewing angles but unless you edit photos, photoshop etc, 120hz is excellent for FPS games.

it feels choppy at 60hz yes if you put Vsync on i never put that it always make think jerky it is certainly the worst setting ever.

IPS colors are great when colors matter. Games are not one of those times. Refresh rate (and lack of visible ghosting) matters a heck of a lot more.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a graphic artist and I can fully appreciate an IPS panel. Gaming is just NOT its forte.

Now.. If someone wants to ship me one of those 133hz Catleap IPS monitors and a GPU that will do it justice, I'll gladly re-evaluate my findings.

I'm at 120Hz now, remember going from 60Hz to 120Hz i noticed a big difference in CS Source..

But with BF3, i cant maintain a CONSTANT 120fps, and playing with 70-90 fps on my 120Hz is laggy and not very good to play with..

Now mostly i can have a stable 119fps which i have locked it to, but flying heli over the map with alot of player and things going on, fps drops, and specially heavy maps like Gulf of Oman and the B2K maps is forcing my fps down..

Im thinking of bying a 27" 1080p 60Hz and sell my 120Hz.. but im really not sure about this. But i think a stable 60fps on a 60Hz will be better than having this fps drops on my 120Hz.
