Yes, it helps by verifying the integrity of system files, and is safe to do. Don't worry.

I recently got a message upon starting Win7...it kept asking me to run CHKDSK automatically....it basically showed a screen that count down 10 seconds and press any key to ignore CHKDSK....I always ignored CHKDSK but every time before I booted into windows, it kept asking me...I have no idea why....anyway I finally accepted because I was tired of seeing that screen....but I feel like I did wrong to my SSD frown.gif

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/284051-32-chkdsk-usage-intel#t1924658

This thread says its not safe to run CHKDSK on SSDs. Can someone please verify for sure?

Almost useless to run on a SSD. CHKDSK was designed for hard disk drives not SSD's.

Google how to prevent chkdsk at boot: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-performance/windows7-stop-chkdsk-on-boot/c460a851-5f71-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5?msgId=8d529312-6771-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5

I find it hard to believe it would actually hurt anything, it's not like Chkdsk does alot of writing unless it finds massive damage to the filesystem.

ya thats what I figured too, chkdsk being useless for SSDs...but the screen would simply not go away....I lived with skipping the screen for a few days....but it would not go away, unless I actually initiated the chkdsk...I just went ahead and did it, because it was annoying the hell out of me....I honestly don't know what "triggered" it to begin with. I'm just afraid chkdsk might have messed up something on my SSD....should I secure erase, just to make sure everything is back to normal?

Actually it rewrites every sector it tests over. So it does do a lot of writing.

Nah, it wont mess anything up. Unless you are having any other issues then no need to reinstall.

Sorry bringing this thread back from the dead but CHKDSK doesn't write anything to the SSD when only the first option is checked. The scan for and attemp recovery of bad sectors feature is the one to avoid.
