Help me find a new case please

Thread Starter
I don't know much about cases. The last one I bought was a Lian-Li V600 which is a nicely built case, but functionally wasn't that good. Had to do some ghetto mods to make it work for my setup. That was around 10 months ago. Now I've added a few HDDs and things won't fit anymore.

Here are some additional datapoints:
XFX XXX PSU
1x SSD
4x HDDs
1 DVD
1 Corsair H60 (as pictured).
1x fan controller (which isn't even on because I have no space)

I'd like the following:
-good airflow
-QUIET
-enough space for all those components and maybe a bit more, but I don't expect to have too many new pieces
-get to the back of the mobo and CPU without having to take the mobo out
-easy accessibility to inside the case, e.g., the V600 has thumb screws for most things and I can remove the side panel without tools, drives lock in without screws
-good wire management (v600 has none)
-portability isn't important but I don't want a tank either
-USB 3.0 and esata ports
-flat top so I can put things on top of it, e.g., USB Drives, drinks (just kidding)

My preference is something under $150. Does it exist?

Thanks for your help!

There should be quite a few cases that can meet your requirement.

I will recommend one for the time being:- Lian Li PC-9F

To begin with, it has the Lian Li quality construction. Then, I suppose it basically meets your needs stated above. See the 2 pics below for a brief summary.

And, it comes well under your budget of $150. Newegg has it for US$90 with free shipping.

I would definitely recommend the Corsair 650D if you can scrape together an extra $30.

That's the case I have and I can't say enough about it. You can get to the motherboard. It has GREAT cable management. It has lots of room without being a monster. There are collectively six HDD slots, but they come as two cages, so the one on top can be moved down so they sit side-by-side. The door panel comes off by using two latches, SO much easier than having to get to screws in the back. Three different places to mount your H60 (currently have my H80 as an intake coming from the top). Has USB 3.0 in the front, and while it doesn't have an eSATA port, it does have an HDD dock on top that has come in very handy. Also, if you're looking for something quiet it comes with two 200mm fans that move lots of air without making much noise. I totally love this case.

Yeah, check out the Cooler Master HAF XM, it just came out (the 30th, which means this morning.) Really, click the link to go through the marketing material. Looks to be pretty good.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far!

I'm liking the Lian Li PC-9F and the Corsair 650D so far. But what about the Lian Li PC-B25S or the Corsair 550D?
The PC-B25S is on sale right now for $119 at NE.

I don't mind spending a few more bucks, but 25.2" seems excessive smile.gif Just for a point of reference, my case right now is a compact 16" tall. I don't mind going up to around 20...but 25 will be too much.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've never really liked the look of Cooler Masters. Not sure why...but I'll check it out anyway.

actually... smile.gif the RV02-E is 19.8 inches tall, it's just 25.2 inchs deep biggrin.gif they needed that amount of length to put the 3 x 180mm fans on the bottom to provide excessive amount of filtered intake air tongue.gif you will not find another case out there that out performs the RV02-E / FT02 in terms of "filtered" intake air to decibel ratio smile.gif

You're right. I actually just looked it up before I read your post. But damn, that's still pretty excessive! smile.gif

Is there a big diff between the RV02B and the RV02B-E? Amazon has the RV02B for $139 after $20MIR vs $178 for the RV02B-E.

primary difference of the -(E)volution are
1. the 180mm fans on the bottom has been changed to the AP181 fans,
2. the HDD cage has been replace to the same type as the FT02
3. the USB plug on the top is now USB3 instead of USB2. (if you bought from a place with newer stock)

you can live w/o getting the -E, but IMO it's worth the $ since a case like this will likely last you for a decade or more.
