Pick me out a Monitor!

Thread Starter
Building my first desktop, needing a monitor:

#1 Gaming - (MMO>=RTS/RPG>FPS>rest)
#2 Netflix
#3 School (400+ page accounting spreadsheets FTW) along with std English essays

Doesn't HAVE to have the worlds fastest response time, I would like a decent STATIC contrast ratio, decent colors, decent blacks

Desk touches wall, wall to front of desk is 23.5 inches.
Desk to me is another ~3inches.

I'm not too sure what size would be best for this, was thinking something more like 22-24inch?*

~400$ budget can go over, would love to go under

I've read through some of the catleap monitor pages and a few others, am VERY interested in the idea of 1440p (can't afford 1600p) - However these are 27" and may be overwhelming for the space I have.

Planning to get a 680, along with an additional in SLI around a year or so down the line. However, if they don't come in stock soon I may wind up with a 7970 = P

Would a singular card RUN games @1440p at respectable levels? are is SLI a must for something like this off the bat? - also would said 1440p monitor look terrible when viewing movies? Would an additional monitor be needed to run just for movies? (planning to get an extra down the line for vent/web ect on the side during games *wouldn't have games extended over both*

*with a roughly 400$ budget, based on this what monitor would you get!!! - I do plan down the line to buy an additional monitor to run as an auxiliary (might even just pull an old 15" SD LCD and put it on the side of the desk) would just be for vent ect during games)

-said budget doesn't include extra monitor
-if were not talking a 1440p monitor don't feel required to spend all 400 as I'll just spend it in my WC loop, however if you think I should buy it - explain the benefits and I'll snag it up = P

C_C edit; offering prizes/rep for help isn't allowed. Attempted edit reversion to circumvent this will result in the post being frozen.

Coming from 17 inches it will fell a little odd at first, but you'll quickly get used to it.
Unfortunately you can't find 1440p screens smaller than 27" tongue.gif

lol no kidding, thanks for all the input guys did have one last question though.

any of those 1440p monitors, I understand many can be OC'd / Mod'd to run at a higher refresh - what cable connections will actually run 1440p above 30hz?* Wound need a connection doing 61hz+ between dual like DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort.

Nearly positive Dual Link does, but will HDMI?

*I know I can't return these monitors, however if I grab it and I'm really just not happy with the size - think it would unload easily if I sold it on the marketplace? Would have a nice vid of unboxing + showing off the screen to show condition and everything. Think that would sell fairly quickly? Possibly recoup 60-80% of cost assuming no dead pixels ect, and I could prove I only had it for ~week?

Thanks for all the help/suggestions! +rep

Im sure you would be able to sell it quickly with the rep its got here and the specs alone. I wouldnt worry about it
