You can with an Asus Transformer (+ dock)

Don't really want a Laptop, wanted something I could carry around, hold with ah and, for reading stuff. I'm considering a B&N Nook Touch or Amazon Kindle Touch, as I plan to read on it mostly. Don't think I'd really watch movies on a dinky 7'' screen, or even 10''.(which the price shoots up to 400!)

I thought about a Kindle Fire, but then, there's no real reason I need one. Can't see myself spending more than 100$.

Just most likely going to get a Amazon Kindle Touch for 80$ @ BestBUy.

No Wi-Fi connections at all in my State pretty much though. Sucks.

E-ink readers are awesome for reading text. Blow backlit LCDs out of the water in that respect.

I have a Transformer as well. I just use the google drive/docs software. Occasionally I use quick office pro. I don't know what you are working on but it works fine for typing my papers. Granted I don't do any fancy formatting. Never tried a powerpoint or anything. I suppose it depends on exactly what you want to work on.

This must be something about the ASUS Transformer Prime. I use my tablet as a portable lap top quite often and with great success. In a perfect world one would one a home desk top for most common use's, A lap top for powerful computing on the go, and a tablet based PC for quick simple stuff while out.
But that's a perfect world.

In regards to using the transformer for writing and powerpoint, sure it may not be as perfect as using a desktop/laptop, however, it is definitely do-able. I've been taking notes as well as writing documents for college, even did the beginning half of my powerpoint while I was away from my desktop, and then finished up all the pretty stuff when I got home. I'd say it works great for on the go, but, yeah I had to do some more editing on my tower when I got home.
Transformer prime, I'm having a great time on it. Sure it's not perfect, don't know what is. But having it with the keyboard dock and a backup battery on it to keep it going for hours on end, gotta love it.

Tl;dr: Transformer Prime can do word and powerpoint if you want, it's just not perfect. Highly recommend it with a keyboard dock, however, I don't know if I'm happy about spending ~$650 on it, but it's got me through the past 6 months of college so far thumb.gif
