Allright, everything seems to be working locally tongue.gif

now how do I change the port apache uses through the cli? so I can set it on my dns provider's account and my router.

edit: I guess the same way as in windows but just use a cli texteditor to edit the httpd file?

edit2: everything works locally now and I entered all into my dns provider but it doesn't seem to work...

I set the apache port to 8090 in the ports.conf file and opened the port using
Code:
sudo ufw allow 8090
but I still cant access my server externally.

vim is better than vi smile.gif

apt-get install vim

To use it, i to edit then esc when your done :wq to wright and quit

Also to allow the firewall do

iptables -nvL

This displays your current ruleset

then

iptables -F
This removes all the rules

(ive never used the ufw front end i prefer just doing it directly smile.gif )

what's your listener address? is it localhost / 127.0.0.1 or an outside facing IP?

try turning IP tables off completely
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/iptables stop

what error are you getting when you try to connect to it? (sorry if I've missed it - I've had a quick scan through the thread and couldn't see it).

does iptables -nvL have default accept?

Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT 42070 packets, 25M bytes)
pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination

~~~~~~~~
also to easily get if you listing externaly
$ grep Listen /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
should return ->
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# Change this to Listen on specific IP addresses as shown below to
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
Listen 80
Shouldn't have to touch iptables at all, I never did on a clean install.
You have port forwarding on your router set up properly?
I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu with Apache2, LAMP, PHP5, PHPBB3.
What problem are you still having? Could be simply permissions playing games with you if you're getting 403's still.
