With a Phenom II installed, you have memory multipliers in the BIOS available up to x8 or DDR3-1600 - above that and you will have to do a reference clock increase.

Exactly. I have mine set for 1600 Cas9 (9 timings) but with my fsb increase, I go to 1664mhz. Not much of an increase, but you get the idea. Also, here are my settings so you can get an idea of what the 960t can do. Please note that I am under water, so your results may vary.

So, with a 970 board, would it be better to buy two sticks of 1333 with lower timings? (cas7?)
