Not to forget there is the topic of drivers. Intel HD 4000 was tested on a few games. here is how they fared

Some like GTA IV would not run at all. Some like Portal 2 would crash randomly. Games like shogun 2 had severe compatibility and performance issues. Intel drivers are yet to reach the game compatibility of AMD / Nvidia. Also they do not release driver updates regularly like AMD / Nvidia.

And I thought we are talking about mobile version are we not? In that case high speed RAM is out of question, since to make laptop appealing few (if any) manufacturers will include high speed RAM in their laptops. And it is not like majority of laptop users will spend more money afterwards on getting faster RAMs.
PoopaScoopa is comparing an mobile version of Ivy to mobile version of Llano. All Ivy CPUs (including i3) for laptop use HD4000.

As I said IvyBridge mobile comparisons can be made with Trinity mobile. Hold on till that. Llano mobile is being held back by low CPU clocks. All the reviews have stated that. Trinity will have higher CPU clocks, better power management and better turbo implementation. So don't jump to conclusions.

It's kind of sad to see people resort to lying to support their fanboy egos, but regardless, (see ~3 posts back), AMD's 6620G mobile graphics are indeed faster than HD 4000. This gives Intel the hugest possible benefit of the doubt, considering very few Ivy Bridge quad-core laptops will only have integrated graphics, and AMD's Trinity mobile (mid-May) will release before Intel's Ivy Bridge mobile dual-cores (June).

I'd GLADLY give the Intel 'boys the petty win they want if HD 4000 was actually better than 6620G, even though it's a comparison between a $400 CPU, vs. a $200 APU, and about 90%+ of IB i7 mobile quad systems will have discrete graphics. But Intel fell short, even with the poor texture quality.

I fail to see why Llano is even in this discussion, let alone a comparison between Ivy and Llano?? I'm just wondering what kind of excuses from the Intel side are going to be thrown around when Trinity releases. Even so, what of this?

I fail to see what excuses have to do with anything in regards to APU performance on a forum where 99% of its users use discrete cards.

Maybe evolution, maybe devolution, but I expect Intel to be still miled ahead of them. Processor-wise, I mean. Okay, maybe their apu is worse than AMD's, but honestly, why even use integrated graphics at all? It's not like a graphics card is unimaginably expensive or anything...

Lots of us on here build systems for other people. The only reason most of us use a discrete card is because we want the best of the best when we do our system's. On that note, I build more budget system's for an "average" user than I do ultimate high end machines. That being said these Trinity APU's are AMAZING for us. Not to mention the amount of HTPC's that are going to use these little guys. Every CPU and GPU has a time and place. When I build a system for most of my family member's or an avrage user I don't waste money on a discrete GPU. In fact, most people have no use for a discrete GPU at all, Most of the system's I build on board graphics are too powerful for what the PC is going to be used for. gamer's, folder's, ect are the minority in the grand scheme of things...

For most people on this planet, Trinity is the perfect solution. Its' CPU is good enough for everything you want to do, up to and including gaming, and the GPU can keep up decent frame rates at a usable resolution. The same cannot be said for Intel. While the Intel CPU part is miles ahead, the GPU is an equal distance behind. Yes, it may seem like it averages out, but the HD3k/4k on Sandy and Ivy is still pretty poor at actually being a GPU, poor enough that if your needs go anywhere beyond farmville for gaming, then it's pretty close to useless.

Making actual gaming happen on an Intel platform still REQUIRES a separate GPU to make it work well. This is not the case for Trinity. Weaker CPU? Definitely. But it's strong enough to keep the built in GPU fully busy, and that GPU is capable of playing some real games at decent frame rates on a big screen. And isn't that people in the real world actually want?

I think for consumer usage pure CPU performance is becoming less relevant.The average user is using the PC for

1.) Productivity applications like MS Office, Adobe Reader
2.) Internet applications like web browsing, email, youtube, twitter etc
3.) Digital lifestyle applications like video editing apps (Corel Videostudio, Adobe Premiere,Cyberlink PowerDirector, Sony Vegas) , video compression / decompression apps and photoediting / image processing apps (Adobe Photoshop, Corel Paintshop Pro)
4.) Entertainment applications like HD movie playback, 3D games

If you notice GPU acceleration is being used more and more in all categories. People thinking that GPU is only for games are badly mistaken. The GPU has many apps which can exploit its power. 3D Graphics is one of them. GPU compute (or GPGPU )enabled apps are increasing rapidly.
So people obsessed with pure CPU based single thread performance are missing the point. Pure CPU performance matters in the server market, workstation market, high end gaming market. But there too changes will occur in the not too distant future. In the server market you have segments like HPC dominated by GPU based Nvidia Tesla products. AMD is looking at HSA based server fusion products by 2015. Eventually thats the holy grail of computing. Having a best of both worlds design. biggrin.gif

Yes it is. It has been proven that a FX-8120 using FMA4 is leaps and bounds faster than a 2600K doing the same x264 workload.
